Zayas VS Ennis Mega Fight Press Conference @ Barclay Center Brooklyn NY-2026

Today, in the heart of Brooklyn, NY at Barclays Center, WBO and WBA Junior Middleweight World Champion Xander Zayas (23-0 13 KOs) and challenger, Philadelphia’s Jaron “Boots” Ennis (35-0 31 KOs), took to the stage to discuss their June 27 bout.

The blockbuster fight is streaming live and exclusively on DAZN PPV, brought to boxing fans around the globe by Matchroom in association with Top Rank.

While Ennis aims to cement his status as a two-weight unified champion, the 23-year-old Zayas most recently unified both titles earlier this year in Puerto Rico after an exhilarating contest that yielded a split decision with Abass Baraou.

The outcome notably solidified Zayas as the youngest unified ruler in the sport and the first Puerto Rican to unify at the weight.

Below is what the fighters and their teams had to say:

Eddie Hearn, Matchroom Chairman   on how he’s feeling that the fight came together…

“I still can’t believe it. One of the hardest jobs in boxing is to get Jaron “Boots” Enis fights. The great news is, thanks to the DAZN partnership with Top Rank, we started talking and all of sudden we said ‘I think we can make Xander Zayas versus Jaron Boots Ennis.’

I’m still in shock and I give the unbelievable credit that Xander deserves because he is a great fighter. He must have a massive set of cojones because what’s about to happen on June 27th is one of the toughest tasks in boxing.”

On not believing Xander would take the fight…   “Dangerous, not just dangerous for him but dangerous for Boots because this kid is 23 and he’s one of the hottest young stars in the sport. I would be keeping him away from Jaron. If I represented Xander Zayas, there is no way I would let him take this fight.

I’d be saying ‘listen, we’ll go to MSG, we’ll fill that out and we’ll do another homecoming fight in Puerto Rico. We’ll have Bad Bunny singing you out. We’ll milk it. We’ll do this, we’ll move up to middleweight, we’ve got years. But this fight is what boxing needs.’”

Todd DuBoef, President, Top Rank:  On having their first major event with DAZN on the Calendar…

We have a saying: ‘This is boxing.’ And I’m going to tell you something. This fight, this is boxing. This is what it’s about. Young kids, in their prime, going at it, putting it all on the line, and win or lose, they both win. That’s what makes this sport so great.”

On what he’s seen over the last year that’s put Xander in this position…

The confidence. We got Xander when he was so young, he was sitting in my office, he was like ‘Miguel Coto’.

I just idolize ‘Miguel Coto’. But to see him physically mature, to see his intellect in the ring, to get used to the ups and downs, and then once you win that title, you just expand your horizon, you get more confidence, and he had so much confidence he goes after the boogieman, the guy that nobody wants to fight. We’re not holding him back, we’re letting the race car go.”

Jaron “Boots” Ennis   On his mindset coming into this fight…

“I think Xander bit off way more than he can chew. Come fight night, he’ll see. I’m going to show everyone that I’m the best in the world.”

On what he thinks made Xander take this fight… “You can watch my fights but when you get in the ring it’s a whole different story. I’m faster than you think. I’m stronger and I have a better IQ, too. He’s going to be in for a long night.”

On the split of the money… “If he’s so confident, why didn’t he take the 55-45 split for the winner? I think that shows a lot. There’s levels to this and I’m going to show him that. It’s about legacy for me. I want to show the world why I’m the best and I believe in myself.”

On if the fight will end in a knockout…  “For sure.”

Xander Zayas :   On why this fight against Boots Ennis had to happen for him… “It’s always been about legacy. Becoming the youngest world champion at 22 when I did it. Youngest unified world champion. And now fighting one of the best in the world in the division.

It’s about legacy. Anybody could have taken the easy route and just get an easy win and that’s it. I want to fight the best. I want to show that I’m the best every time I step into the ring. And that’s what I’m going to do on June 27.”

On Ennis being a weight bully…  “Because he has, I mean, everybody at 147 was always smaller than them. He was a big cop. 54 is different. You got these guys coming from 190 from 181, 85, 200. It’s different.”

What are his advantages in this fight against Ennis… “Everything. I mean, [Ennis] has never faced an athletic fighter like me.”

On how the fight ends…  “I never go out there looking for the knockout. But I promise I’m going to rip his heart out. I guarantee you that. He’s going to be uncomfortable. I’m going to show you come June 27.”

Javiel Centeno, Zayas’ Trainer On Zayas wanting to fight Ennis…

“We’ve talked about Jaron Ennis in the past, and we’ve always been in agreement on things we’ve seen that we can take advantage of. Xander said this is the time to do it, and as a team we decided to take the fight.”

Bozy Ennis, Jaron’s Father and Trainer  On his thoughts for the June 27 fight…

“I think [Zayas] bit off too much. Boots can box and he can fight you inside. I want [Zayas] to take him [Zayas] to another level because Boots has so many different levels he can get to.”

It was a very lively press conference, both fighters taking a jab at each other, ans the faceoff lasting a long time with neither fighter taking there eyes of each other.

It should be an exciting fight, our prediction is a late TKO or a point’s decision for Ennis.

Teofimo Lopez VS Shakur Stevenson Mega Fight Press Conference at MSG-2026

‘The Ring 6’ final press conference ahead of a marquee main event that will see  (22-1, 13 KOs) defend his Ring Magazine and WBO Junior Welterweight Titles against Shakur Stevenson (24-0, 11 KOs).

Who aims to secure his fourth world title in a fourth different weight class. It all gets underway Saturday night, January 31, live worldwide, exclusively on DAZN PPV.

The undercard features numerous must-see matchups headlined by WBO No.1 ranked Keyshawn Davis (13-0, 9 KOs) in his anticipated return to the ring against Jamaine Ortiz (20-2, 10 KOs) as the co-main event. Additionally, WBC World Middleweight Champion Carlos Adames (24-1, 18 KOs) will take on Austin ‘Ammo’ Williams (19-1, 13 KOs), while Brooklyn native, Bruce ‘Shu Shu’ Carrington (16-0, 9 KOs) will look to defend his home turf and secure the Vacant WBC Featherweight Championship against veteran, Carlos Castro (30-3, 14 KOs). Heavyweight ‘Big Baby’ Jarrell Miller (26-1, 22 KOs) will also join in on the action against ‘Black Lion’ Kingsley Ibeh (16-2, 14 KOs), and Saudi Arabian prodigy Ziyad ‘Zizo’ Almaayouf (7-0, 1 KO) looks to upend Kevin Castillo (5-2) in a Super Lightweight bout.

Teofimo Lopez: On how his preparation has been going and how big of a challenge it may be for him on Saturday night…

“It’s been very good. Stacy McKinley, our assistant trainer, has been helping out and training me at his gym, alongside my father.

The amount of knowledge that’s been bestowed in my skills, and the amount of progress I’ve been creating has really made an impact. I feel very good, excited, determined, and I can’t wait to display that on Saturday.”

On if this is the best he’s felt going into a fight…“Yes, but more importantly my soul feels great, like a beacon.” Keith Connolly, Connolly Boxing On what he’s seen from Teofimo Lopez in this camp…

“I’m super excited, big fight week in New York and nothing like a fight at Madison Square Garden. We’re in the same exact position five, six years ago when he fought [Vasiliy] Lomachenko.

He went in and kicked his a**. He’s going to do it again. Shakur Stevenson is a great fighter, but he’s never faced anyone like Teofimo Lopez.”

Shakur Stevenson: On why it matters bringing the kids from New Jersey to Saturday’s fight…

“It means everything to me. I usually do this before a lot of my fights, but it means everything for the kids to get motivation by seeing me fight. They get to see somebody from the same circumstances, but my main thing is to give them motivation.”

On if this fight has become personal…“It’s all business. I’m not treating it that way, but I’m one hundred percent focused and we’ll see on Saturday night.” On how big of a challenge Teofimo Lopez will be…“We’ll see. He’s a good fighter.”

James Prince, J Prince Boxing Gym, on what makes Shakur Stevenson unique… “He’s one of a kind. He’s his own person and a student of the game. He has taken aspects from the great Andre Ward, the great Roy Jones, yet he’s borrowed from all of them and blended it into his own mix. Now, he’s Shakur Stevenson. One of a kind.”

Rick Reeno, CEO, Ring Magazine:On the main event…“We’re only two days away…two of the biggest stars colliding, and that’s why The Mecca of Boxing is sold out, live and exclusively on DAZN. Shakur – if you talk to any of the oddsmakers he’s a favorite.

Teofimo upsets the odds, though. He upset the odds against [Vasiliy] Lomachenko, Josh Taylor, and if he does it again, it will be the biggest of his career. I think Shakur is the better fighter.”

“On the other end, Shakur is one the most talented boxers in the game today, and he’s looking to make history on Saturday night by going for his fourth divisional title. I believe it’ll be the biggest victory of his career because I hold Teofimo higher in regard than the fighters Shakur has fought. It’s an intriguing fight with two of the very best colliding along with The Ring title at stake.”

Eddie Hearn, Chairman, Matchroom Sport: On which fight he is most excited about…

“Firstly, you talk about good and bad memories. That’s what you want and that’s what you get when you come to The Mecca of Boxing. I want to say well done to Matchroom and The Ring team for a completely sold-out event. This is something very special and this place is special.

A lot of people say to me, ‘Dream venue for boxing?’ and it’s always Madison Square Garden, so we’re very lucky. I can go down the table – Jarrell Miller. A lot has been said, but this is an emotional return for him. I look at Carlos Adames – a great world champion, and to my left, Austin ‘Ammo’ Williams, who turned professional with Matchroom Boxing.

I could not sit here any prouder than Ammo. Everything he went through, the ups and downs, has led to the moment he can win that incredible green and gold belt at Madison Square Garden. Carlos Castro, Shu Shu [Carrington] – You’re all from the same school. Shu Shu – I don’t even represent you and I’m excited for you because I know when you walked through those gym doors as a kid coming up from USA boxing. Keyshawn, you’re a great fighter and you’ve been through your ups and downs as well. To our partners at DAZN, I couldn’t be prouder.

We came to this market six years ago and we were ridiculed for fighting on an app. Now, we sit as the global home of boxing. The unrivaled global home of boxing and this card on Saturday night should not be missed. Two of the sport’s greatest talents in the main event…this is what makes the sport great. Tune in live on DAZN for a night you won’t forget.”

On the Shakur Stevenson vs Teofimo Lopez fight…“This is everything. Everyone talks about making boxing great again, and you’ve got to tip your hat off to Shakur and Teo, because Shakur is dominating the 135 pound division. Both fighters know that there’s money out there, deals out there, to just keep on doing the standard thing, but these aren’t standard guys. These are guys that are chasing greatness in a sold out arena that has hosted Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Robinson and Rocky Marciano.

That’s what these guys are after. You know the guy to my left [Shakur Stevenson] at 28 years of age, I say it all the time – he’s a three division World Champion looking to become a four division World Champion at the age of 28 and that’s a phenomenal achievement.

Any young fighter getting in the game, I would recommend they look at the way that Shakur Stevenson lives his life and his dedication to the sport, and the same with Teofimo [Lopez] as well.

This is a joy as I said to the fighters earlier on the undercard…understand what you’re fighting for on Saturday night. Memories. Top to bottom, the whole boxing world will be in New York on Saturday night. You’ve got the Ring Magazine Awards tomorrow night, live on DAZN around the world. Thank you to both men. This is exactly what boxing needs, and I cannot wait. “

Shakur is the favorite to win, my prediction is that this is a 50/50 fight, who has the heart and wants it most will win, wishing both fighters all the best.

Ring Magazine’s EDGAR BERLANGA VS. HAMZAH SHEERAZ AND SHAKUR STEVENSON VS. WILLIAM ZEPEDA NYC-2025

RING MAGAZINE III DOUBLEHEADER EDGAR BERLANGA VS. HAMZAH SHEERAZ AND SHAKUR STEVENSON VS. WILLIAM ZEPEDA.

May 15, 2025 – To kick off the massive Ring Magazine III doubleheader, Ring Magazine’s No. 9-ranked Edgar “The Chosen One” Berlanga and No.3-ranked Hamzah Sheeraz, along with No. 4-ranked Shakur Stevenson and No.5-ranked William “El Camarón” Zepeda, met face-to-face at the Palladium Times Square in New York City today ahead of their July 12 fight at the Louis Armstrong Stadium in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, New York City, live worldwide on DAZN.

The bout follows a pair of star-studded Ring Magazine contests, first at London’s Tottenham Stadium and then in New York’s Times Square, which achieved over 116 billion combined online and social media impressions.

Today’s press conference, hosted by Wade Plemons, featured faceoffs of Berlanga (23-1, 18 KOs) and Sheeraz (21-0-1, 17 KOs) ahead of their super middleweight fight and Olympic Silver Medalist Stevenson (23-0, 11 KOs) as he looks to defend his WBC Lightweight Title on July 12 against Golden Boy Promotions’ Zepeda (33-0, 27 KOs).

This is what the fighters and their teams had to say:  Edgar Berlanga: On the upcoming; “You already know what time it is. I’m knocking this mother***er out. He said we’re overlooking him, but I don’t overlook any fighter. You are in NYC. You are in the lion’s den. We’re going into this looking to hurt him. I’m going to break every bone in this guy’s face and do what I do best: put on a show. Every fight, you have to turn it up.”

On his confidence: “I’ve always been like this [confident]. You saw me in the Canelo fight. I went toe-to-toe with him. I was trash-talking him to his face. I’m like that at the highest level.”

On Sheeraz’s fighting style: “He’s a basic fighter. I’ve been boxing since I was six years old. What he brings, I’ve already seen. He’s trained by Andy Lee, I messed up the last fighter, and now I’ll mess up this fighter.” On fight prediction: “If he comes to fight the first round, I’m knocking him out.”

On a potential Canelo rematch: “His people are asking for the rematch. It was a big fight – every bar in New York and Puerto Rico was shut down. I gave him 12 rounds when all the other fighters he fought had more experience. I want a Canelo rematch because the fans are asking for it.”

Hamzah Sheeraz: His message to Berlanga: “I’m coming, and I’m coming for everything. I feel like this fight, for the first time in my career, I’m being underestimated. I get it; you’re only as good as your last performance in boxing. I’m telling you now, on July 12 – when I get the win – the Hamzah Sheeraz hype train will be back on again. We’re coming with everything.”

On his last fight: “I’ve learned a lot of things, but it’s all well and good, that’s the past. We’re in New York, everything is about the future and all about July 12. I’m ready.” On being called soft: “If I were soft, I wouldn’t be going into a fight like this, at 160 at a new weight. On July 12, we’ll see what I’m all about.”

On his prediction for the fight: “I’ve learned a lot since my last fight, not just in the ring but outside as well. I’m going to go out there, throw a few jabs, land a right hand straight on the chin, and knock him the f*** out. But if it goes 12 rounds, it goes 12 rounds. Either way, it’ll be explosive.”

On fighting Canelo in the future: “I’m not going to talk about that. I need to smash Berlanga’s face, and then we can talk about that.”

Shakur Stevenson: On how he expects the fight to go: “He’s coming in here to throw as many punches as possible, overwhelm me, and try to bully me. I’m not going to let that happen. I don’t believe in all the bull*** he’s talking about. I’m going to go out there and do what I do best, win. In spectacular fashion. I’ll come out there to whoop his a**.”

On Zepeda’s plea to “stand up and fight:” “I’m coming there to put on a performance. I’m not focused on standing there and fighting, I’m not focused on boxing, I’m coming in there to put on the best performance of my career. On July 12, Zepeda is going to remember my name.”

On his performance: “I’m going to train my ass off. Come July 12, he’ll have the best version of Shakur Stevenson in front of him. He will see something different that he hasn’t seen before. If he thought I was a skilled fighter before, wait until he sees the best version of myself on fight night. He has no chance.

On being compared to the boxing greats: “It’s cool, but I don’t get too caught up in that. I don’t want to get trapped where I’m thinking so highly of myself, and I’m not thinking of the fight. Know that I’m not sleeping on William Zepeda. I understand that this is a fighter who has been waiting for this opportunity his entire life. I’ve known Zepeda since I was 16, and he was focused then. Understand this is his moment too, so at the end of the day, I have to lock in. I’m going to step on him, and that’s what I’m coming to do.”

On looking ahead to a potential Tank fight: “Right now, all that’s on my mind is July 12. Of course, I want the Tank fight. I’ve been saying it for years. Truthfully, if I don’t get past Zepeda, then there is no Tank fight. Zepeda is first, and I’m going to stand on business.”

William Zepeda: On his upcoming fight against Stevenson: “It’s an honor to be here. This is the fruit of 16 years of labor. This is the opportunity of my life, and I believe on July 12, everyone is going to know who William “El Camarón” Zepeda is. I know that I have to prepare one million percent for this fight. It’s the biggest fight of my career, the biggest fight of my life, and like I’ve told my team, I can’t leave this in the judge’s hands. I have to come out here and give everything I have in my heart and stop this fight.”

On being overlooked by Eddie Hearn: “I don’t care what Eddie says. I’m preparing really well. I’m fully aware of Shakur’s skillset, and I am doing what needs to be done to win on July 12. Shakur says he’s going to stand and fight – let’s stand and fight.”

On what he expects from Stevenson: “I know that Shakur is a great fighter, and I understand the opposition in front of us, but I am training for that. I have a plan A and plan B. A lot of fighters I’ve fought think I’m a guy who just throws punches until they’re in the ring with me.”

On Stevenson, saying he’ll step on him: “I’ve always been a fighter known to be very disciplined, very focused. This is not an exception. This is the biggest fight of my life and the greatest opportunity I have. I want to be known as a Mexican legend, but not just a Mexican legend, a legend in the sport of boxing. I look at this fight like a movie, like Meldrick Taylor versus Chavez, and I want that type of fight. I want to give the fans what they want.”

His Excellency Turki Alalshikh, Chairman of the General Entertainment Authority:“This card is very important for boxing and nobody can predict the results. The Ring Magazine III features a historic card in a historic place, the first-ever boxing match in a tennis arena. I see the eye of Shakur as the Tank, the eye of Zepeda in big fights in Mexico, the eye of the result in Berlanga, and the eye of Sheeraz as Canelo. This whole card is very important to me, it has brilliant fighters and the results of this card will affect the next one and all of boxing. We have two big cards coming up in August and in October, but this card is very important to me. Shakur, Zepeda, Sheeraz, Berlanga, and the result of this card will affect the future.”

Rick Reeno, COO of The Ring Magazine: “Our first card at Tottenham, Eubank vs. Benn, that was about legacy. Our Times Square card was about history, and to me personally, this card is all about action. These are action fights from top to bottom. Starting with Edgar Berlanga and Hamzah Sheeraz at super middleweight, this fight could be bombs away from the very first round. There’s a lot of animosity there. I know Edgar’s taken some offense with Hamzah coming to his backyard. Edgar is looking to end it early. Hamzah is looking to end this fight by knockout. I really don’t expect this fight to go the distance. It is going to be fireworks from the first round.”

“We have Shakur Stevenson in our other main event, defending his WBC lightweight title against mandatory challenger William Zepeda. Shakur, without question, is one of the best pure boxers in the sport. He’s going up against Zepeda, an aggressive puncher. A lot of people look to July 4 for fireworks. July 12 is when the real fireworks are going to happen.”

Eddie Hearn, Chairman of Matchroom Boxing: “This event will be the most exciting of the three Ring Magazine events that have occurred in the span of just a few weeks.

“People always ask me the difference in the U.S. coming over from the U.K. Stevenson is a superstar, not just a superstar in boxing, but in American sport. He’s 27 years old. He’s a three-division world champion, and he’s never broken a sweat. Eric Gomez said it right, comparing him to Floyd Mayweather, but I’d also put him with the likes of Sugar Ray Leonard, all of the greats. For greatness, you need a great opponent, and that’s William Zepeda.

“Edgar Berlanga against Sheeraz. Berlanga is a fantastic puncher, and Hamzah Sheeraz is going to be very well-suited at 168, especially with Andy Lee in the corner. One of the best trainers in the world.

“This is the fight where Shakur Stevenson will show everybody how great and special he is. You’re talking about pound-for-pound number one greatness for this man. The Ring Magazine is doing such an incredible job with these cards.”

Eric Gomez, President of Golden Boy Promotions: “After the last show we did in New York [May 2 Times Square Event], we all need more punches. These are the fighters to do it. William Zepeda’s output is incredible. Edgar Berlanga, one of the most exciting fighters in boxing today. And then. Shakur is the closest thing to a Floyd Mayweather, if not better.”

“These fighters are great. It’s a can’t-miss card. These fighters are going to come to fight and take care of business. They want to prove to the fans and the world of boxing that they’re all action. It’s going to be a great show.”

Spencer Brown, Goldstar Promotions: “I spoke to Keith Connolly earlier. To reiterate, he said Hamzah is only going to go six rounds. We’re coming into the lion’s den. He’s moved up to 168 lbs. Berlanga is a very big guy, and it’s not going to be an easy task, but we’re going to beat him, and we will win it comfortably. He’s six-foot-four, a big man. We think that we can definitely win the fight, and we’re quite confident.”

Keith Connolly:“It’s a huge fight for Edgar. Anytime Edgar fights in New York, it’s a huge event. I think it’s going to be bombs away, but I don’t see this going past five rounds. Sheeraz is a great fighter, but there are levels to this sport, and he’s not on Edgar’s level. I think it’s going to be a massacre on July 12, and I see a violent knockout coming. It’s going to be a great event. Our fight is definitely going to be the fight of the night. Expect an explosive knockout, and this will be a springboard for Edgar going forward.”
