Mayor Bloomberg and Media and Entertainment Commissioner Oliver Present Seventh Annual “Made In NY” Awards at Gracie Mansion – New York, 2012

Mayor Bloomberg and Mayor’s Office of Media & Entertainment Commissioner Katherine Oliver presented the seventh annual “Made in NY” Awards, honoring individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the City’s entertainment and digital media industries. The 2012 “Made in NY” honorees include: Academy Award-winning actor, director, producer Robert De Niro; Academy Award-winning actress Meryl Streep; Academy Award, Emmy, Tony and Grammy winner Whoopi Goldberg; Emmy-winning actress and television host Kelly Ripa; award-winning media company radical.media, which develops, produces and distributes innovative content across all forms of media; and New York City-based Kickstarter, the world’s largest funding platform for creative projects.

This year’s “Made in NY” Mayor’s Award for Lifetime Achievement was presented to actors and legendary husband-and-wife comedy team Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara. The Mayor made the announcement at Gracie Mansion, where Raven-Symoné and the cast of the Broadway musical Sister Act performed. The musical, which received five Tony Award nominations, features an original score by Alan Menken and Glenn Slater and is currently playing at the Broadway Theatre.

“This has been a remarkable and record-breaking year for New York City’s entertainment and digital media industries, which are vital parts of our economic diversification strategy,” said Mayor Bloomberg. “More New Yorkers than ever before are taking advantages of the opportunities within these growing industries. Congratulations to all of the honorees, who are proof positive that when you’re Made in NY, you can make it anywhere.”

“Our City is home to some of the most talented people in the world, who are part of a creative community that continually amaze and impress us all,” said Commissioner Oliver. “It’s an honor to recognize these individuals and organizations tonight for all of their achievements as we celebrate the seventh annual ‘Made in NY’ Awards.”

Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara Receiving the Made in NY Lifetime Achievement Award –New York, 2012

Made in NY” Mayor’s Award for Lifetime Achievement: Anne Meara and Jerry Stiller.

As “Stiller & Meara,” Anne Meara and Jerry Stiller gained nationwide fame as a comedy team on “The Ed Sullivan Show.” They have performed together in nightclubs and theatres across the county and have made countless appearances on television and radio. As Frank Costanza on “Seinfeld,” Stiller received an Emmy Award nomination, won the American Comedy Award for “Funniest Male Guest Appearance in a Television Show” and was honored by the Paley Center for Media as ‘TV’s All Time Funniest Relative.’ Following “Seinfeld,” Jerry enjoyed a nine-year run as Arthur Spooner on the hit CBS series, “King of Queens.” He has also appeared in numerous films, including The Taking of Pelham One-Two-Three, The Ritz, Hairspray, and Zoolander (with son, Ben Stiller).

Television appearances include “Seize the Day,” “Murder She Wrote,” “In the Heat of the Night,” ‘The Good Wife” and many others. Meara is remembered for her film work, including Fame, Boys from Brazil and Awakenings. On television Meara played Peggy Moody in “All My Children,” starred in the series “Kate McShane,” and had recurring roles on “Rhoda,” “Archie Bunker’s Place,” “Alf,” “Sex in the City” and “King of Queens.” She has received five Emmy nominations for her television work. Anne’s script After-Play was produced by Manhattan Theatre Club then moved Off-Broadway to Theatre Four.

Meara won the Outer Critic’s Circle John Gassner Award for playwriting for After-Play. Meara and Stiller have also both appeared on Broadway. Meara’s credits include Eastern Standard and Anna Christie, for which she was nominated for a Tony Award. Stiller has appeared in various shows, including Hurlyburly, Three Men on a Horse and What’s Wrong with this Picture. Most recently, Stiller has appeared in commercials for Capital One Bank, and the couple has hosted their own web series, StillerandMeara.com. They are currently appearing in a Public Service Announcement for Mayor Bloomberg’s Million Tree Initiative.

Among other roles, he is noted for his Academy Award-nominated portrayal of Sydney Schanberg in 1984’s The Killing Fields, and his Golden Globe-nominated and Screen Actors Guild Award-winning portrayal of Jack McCoy on the NBC television series Law & Order.

He has been nominated for multiple Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild, BAFTA and Emmy awards, having starred in over eighty film and television productions during his forty-five-year career. Exclusive Interview with Actress Susan Lucci – 2012

Susan Lucci is an American actress, television host, author and entrepreneur, best known for portraying Erica Kane on the ABC daytime drama All My Children. The character is considered an icon, and Lucci has been called “Daytime’s Leading Lady” by TV Guide, with New York Times and Los Angeles Times citing her as the highest-paid actor in daytime television. As early as 1991, her salary had been reported as over $1 million a year.

In 1996, TV Guide ranked Lucci number 37 on its 50 Greatest TV Stars of All Time list. In 2005, she received a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was inducted into the Broadcasting Hall of Fame in 2006. She named one of VH1’s 200 Top Icons of All-Time and one of Barbara Walters’s Ten Most Fascinating People. She has also played roles in made-for-TV movies, hosted many shows and guest starred on television comedy series, including Saturday Night Live and Hot in Cleveland. She also has her own line of hair care products, perfumes, lingerie and skin care, called The Susan Lucci Collection. Lucci was cast as Genevieve Delacourt in the upcoming Lifetime television series Devious Maids, set to air in 2013.

The Giants of Broadcasting Luncheon – 2012

The National Library of American Broadcasting presented its 10th Annual Giants of Broadcasting Honors at a ceremony and luncheon on October 18, 2012, in New York City. The event served as a tribute to those individuals who have played pivotal roles in creating and advancing the electronic arts. The distinguished honorees join 140 Giants of Broadcasting who have been honored by the Library since 2003. Bill Baker, president emeritus of WNET New York and himself a Giant of Broadcasting, served as master of ceremonies.

Randy Jackson of American Idol Honored at the T.J. Martell Foundation Gala – 2012

Randall Darius “Randy” Jackson is an American bassist, singer, record producer, entrepreneur and television personality. He is best known as a judge on American Idol and executive producer for MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew. Jackson has won a Grammy Award as a producer.

Jackson played in bands with Carlos Santana and Jerry Garcia. In the early 1980s he played on three albums for Jean-Luc Ponty and with the rock band Taxxi. From 1986 to 1987 he was a session musician for the rock group Journey. Jackson played on Journey’s 1986 album Raised on Radio. He moved to Italy in the late 1980s and played on a record by Italian pop star Zucchero. The record, Zucchero and the Randy Jackson Band, was produced by Corrado Rustici who played guitar with Jackson on many albums in the early 1980s. He also played with Billy Cobham.

Starting back in 2002, Jackson is one of the panel judges on the Fox Network reality television series American Idol, along with Paula Abdul , Simon Cowell), Kara DioGuardi, Ellen DeGeneres, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler. As a result of Cowell’s departure, Jackson is left as the sole original judge on American Idol. His role was originally going to be reduced to that of a mentor, so the 2013 season will have all new judges, but it was later decided that he will remain as a judge for season 12.

Interview With Actor Armand Assante – 2010

Assante was born in New York City and raised in Cornwall, New York, the son of Katherine, a music teacher and poet, and Armand Anthony Assante, Sr., a painter and artist. His father was Italian American and his mother was Irish American, and he was raised in a devoutly Roman Catholic family.

During the 1970s, Assante was a regular on two NBC soap operas, How to Survive a Marriage as Johnny McGee and The Doctors as Dr. Mike Powers. His first film was The Lords of Flatbush (1974). A role that brought him greater attention came in 1980’s Private Benjamin as a handsome Frenchman who becomes the love interest of a U.S. soldier played by Goldie Hawn.

Assante’s somewhat sinister look has made him a popular choice for tough-guy heroes, as in his starring role as private eye Mike Hammer in the film I, the Jury (1982) or as Mafia gangsters like that of Michael Moretti in Sidney Sheldon’s Rage of Angels. He portrayed the notorious Bugsy Siegel in a comedy, Neil Simon’s The Marrying Man (1991), another mobster in Hoffa (1992) starring Jack Nicholson, and crime kingpin John Gotti in the 1996 made-for-television biopic Gotti, for which he won his Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie.

Danny DeVito, Director, Producer, and Actor – Live Performance at The International CES 2013

Born in Neptune, New Jersey on November 17, 1944, Daniel Michael DeVito, Jr. has amassed a formidable and versatile body of work as an actor, producer and director that spans the stage, television and film. The son of Julia and Daniel DeVito, owners of several small businesses, DeVito trained at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, from which he graduated in 1966. In the late 1960s and early 1970s DeVito wrote, directed and produced several short films while also performing in many stage productions, but struggled to find show business success. Several small film parts followed, leading to a role as Martini alongside Jack Nicholson in Milos Forman’s masterpiece, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (1975), which was nominated for 9 Oscars and won 5.

From 1978 to 1983, DeVito played one of his defining characters, Louie De Palma, on the hit show “Taxi” (1978). DeVito won an Emmy and a Golden Globe for his role on “Taxi” (1978), and he also had the opportunity to play opposite his future wife Rhea Perlman – the two were married from 1982-2012 and have three children together. Following “Taxi” (1978), DeVito returned to the big screen in films such as Romancing the Stone (1984), Ruthless People (1986), Batman Returns (1992) and L.A. Confidential (1997). More recently, in addition to returning to theatre work, DeVito has been active in both television and film, playing Frank Reynolds on FX’s hit show “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” (2005) and the title voice role in Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax (2012).

DeVito has many directing credits to his name as well, including Throw Momma from the Train (1987), The War of the Roses (1989), Hoffa (1992), Death to Smoochy (2002) and the upcoming St. Sebastian (2013). If that weren’t enough, the production company that DeVito and Perlman founded, Jersey Films, has produced more than 20 films including Reality Bites (1994), Pulp Fiction (1994), Erin Brockovich (2000) and Be Cool (2005).

Dr. Bill Crosby Stand-up Comedy Performance for the Orthopedic Foundation – 2012

William Henry “Bill” Cosby, Jr. (born July 12, 1937) is an American comedian, actor, author, television producer, educator, musician and activist. A veteran stand-up performer, he got his start at various clubs, then landed a starring role in the 1960s action show, I Spy. He later starred in his own sitcom, The Bill Cosby Show. He was one of the major characters on the children’s television series The Electric Company for its first two seasons, and created the educational cartoon comedy series Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids, about a group of young friends growing up in the city. Cosby has also acted in a number of films.

During the 1980s, Cosby produced and starred in one of the decade’s defining sitcoms, The Cosby Show, which aired eight seasons from 1984 to 1992. It was the number one show in America for five straight years, 1985-1989.The sitcom highlighted the experiences and growth of an affluent African-American family. He also produced the spin-off sitcom A Different World, which became second to The Cosby Show in ratings. He starred in the sitcom Cosby from 1996 to 2000 and hosted Kids Say the Darndest Things for two seasons.

He has been a spokesman and has endorsed a number of products, including Jell-O, Kodak film, Ford, Texas Instruments, and Coca-Cola. In 2002, scholar Molefi Kete Asante included him in his book, the 100 Greatest African Americans.

In 1976, Cosby earned a Doctor of Education degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. For his doctoral research, he wrote a dissertation entitled, “An Integration of the Visual Media Via ‘Fat Albert And The Cosby Kids’ Into the Elementary School Curriculum as a Teaching Aid and Vehicle to Achieve Increased Learning”.

The Corporate Responsibility Magazine Awards Dinner at The World Famous Cipriani – Wall Street, New York, 2012

Each year since 2008, CR Magazine has awarded the prestigious Responsible CEO of the Year Award, presented to CEOs — from companies, NGOs, and governments — who, during the previous year, put themselves at personal and professional risk in order to deliver on corporate responsibility promises.
This annual award is unique among business honors because it recognizes how individual CEOs have aligned their organization’s interests with that of thousands of stakeholders to do well by doing good and acknowledges leadership in progress, since corporate responsibility represents a discipline that is ever to be improved upon.

In 2011, CR Magazine announced the addition of the Corporate Responsibility Lifetime Achievement Award to recognize an individual whose risk-taking, vision and pioneering spirit have led to significant achievement in the Corporate Responsibility field over the course of their career.

Rex W. Tillerson – Chairman, President, and CEO of Exxon Mobil Corporation – 2011

In 1989, he became general manager of Exxon Company USA’s central production division, responsible for oil and gas production operations throughout a large portion of Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Kansas.

In 1992, Mr. Tillerson was named production advisor to Exxon Corporation. Three years later, he was named president of Exxon Yemen Inc. and Esso Exploration and Production Khorat Inc., and in January 1998 became vice president of Exxon Ventures (CIS) Inc. and president of Exxon Neftegas Limited. In those roles, he was responsible for Exxon’s holdings in Russia and the Caspian Sea as well as the Sakhalin I consortium operations offshore Sakhalin Island, Russia.

In December 1999, he became executive vice president of ExxonMobil Development Company. Tillerson was named senior vice president of Exxon Mobil Corporation in August 2001, and was elected president of the corporation and member of the board of directors on March 1, 2004. He assumed his current position on January 1, 2006.
