Exclusive interview with Henry Hascup,The Uncrowned King of Sports Information

Henry Hascup is known as the uncrowned king of sports information. Sport writers from all over the country have called his home for sport information.
He is currently the President and Historian, since the mid-1980s, of the New Jersey Boxing Hall of Fame, as well as the New Jersey Diamond Gloves. He is
also the current President of the New Jersey Association of USA Boxing. Henry is the Historian of many other sporting organizations throughout the area,
including Ring #25 and most recently, the Boxing Writers Association of America, plus he is on the Board of Directors of Ring #8 in New York.

He has MC’d many sporting functions throughout the local area and has ring announced boxing shows on ESPN, Madison Square Garden Network, Atlantic City,
Westchester County Center in White Plains, Monticello Raceway, Hanover Marriott in Whippany, Iona College, Schuetzen Park, North Bergen, the Area in Philadelphia, etc.

He is also one of the editors on BoxRec, which is the largest record keeping site in boxing and he has corrected over 200 world championship-boxing records for the
Ring Record Book and over 1,000 records in all. Plus, he is a voting member on both the Modern and Old-timers Committee for the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

Henry was also the President of the North Jersey Majors-Met League, which is the best amateur baseball league in the state of New Jersey and one
of the best leagues in the country.

You can find his name on several dozen sport web sites, either answering sport questions or as a trivia checker for many others. All you got to
do is “Google” his name.

His home in Lodi, New Jersey contains over 12,000 sport magazines and over 2,500 sport books. He owns every issue of The Sporting News since
the early 1960s and he has a lot of other ones that go back to the early 1950s. He has all the record books, guides, registers, handbooks, almanacs,
encyclopedias, etc., on all sports. He has material as far back as 1886. He has also done a lot of research by going through microfilms and old newspapers.

The 62 year old has been doing sports trivia since he was a kid. A local newspaper, which is called The Bergen Record had a sports trivia question
that they gave out every week for over 20 years (it stopped in 1991) and Henry answered correctly far more than anyone else and very seldom missed.
He once answered 138 weeks in a row without missing. He has won over 1,000 sport trivia contests throughout the area and also throughout the country and
that’s even before he came on the Internet.

Since he has been the President of the NJ Boxing Hall of Fame, he has given well over 200 eulogies for former boxing people, including Tippy Larkin,
Paul Cavaliere, Joey Giardello, Rocky Castellani and Arturo Gatti. At the end of his talk, he rings the bell, not 10 times, BUT 9. He feels if we
rung it 10 times, that would mean that they would no longer be with us, BUT a small part of them will live on. They will live on through their family,
friends and fans.

Interview with Former World Heavyweight Boxing Champion,Pinklon Thomas (2013)

Pinklon Thomas is a retired heavyweight boxer and former WBC heavyweight champion from 1984 to 1986, whose trademark pink boxing trunks and a powerful left jab were key distinguishing characteristics.

Pinklon Thomas turned professional after just three amateur fights and, with a record of 24-0-1, would finally get his World title shot against reigning WBC champion Tim Witherspoon in August 1984, in Las Vegas, NV.

Thomas won the WBC Heavyweight Championship with a hard fought 12-round battle over “Terrible” Tim Weatherspoon on August 31, 1984. Ten months later, he defended his title against ex-champion Mike Weaver, stopping Weaver with a single punch in the eighth round. Thomas lost the WBC title to Trevor Berbick in March 1986 by a decision.

Thomas came back and reeled off three ko wins before setting up a May 1987 challenge to WBC and WBA Heavyweight champion Mike Tyson. Although Thomas allegedly took the fight with a serious shoulder injury, he enjoyed success outjabbing Tyson. After a long break for a torn glove, action resumed in the 6th round where Tyson knocked Thomas out with a brutal fifteen punch salvo, knocking the extremely durable Thomas down for the first and last time in his lengthy career. Although he got up inside the count, the fight was waved off.

Thomas went in and out of retirement over the following years, taking fights against top contenders.

In December 1988 he returned from a 19 month layoff to fight #1 heavyweight contender Evander Holyfield. Thomas looked rusty as he was outmatched over 7 rounds, after which he was pulled out of his corner. Long-time trainer Angelo Dundee advised Thomas to retire and stopped working with him.

The 2013 Phelophepa Awards and Benefit Dinner

The American Friends of the Phelophepa Train, a 501(c) (3) organization, was formed 11 years ago to enhance funding and awareness for our preventive health organization targeting rural residents of South Africa. We value our American donors for their unwavering support and commitment to a vital cause in this culturally diverse developing country.

The Phelophepa Train brings a range of healing – physical, emotional and social – to what was once a racially torn nation. As the country’s “Miracle Train,” our staff provides basic health care to hard-to-reach residents of South Africa where the ratio of medical care is one doctor to every 5,000 citizens.

We feel strongly that our optimal resources are preventative care, basic health education and an efficient infrastructure to sustain them. More than ever, we need continued collective support to reach our goals.

One of the biggest causes for celebration in 2012 is the long awaited launch of our second train. On March 12, the Phelophepa II embarked on its first journey to Mount Ruth in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. The new train will double the capacity of the program and service new territories.

Since our U.S. launch in 2002, the American Friends of the Phelophepa Train has organized annual fundraiser galas and other events where we honor American business and social leaders who share our goals in bringing superior health services to the masses. Thanks to their support, and the contributions of new U.S. ambassadors and donors, we hope to continue to deliver the highest standard of care and improve the quality of life for rural South Africans.

Thanks to our American friends, our train has traveled thousands of more miles and succeeding in reaching approximately 5.5 million South Africans.

We have also garnered global recognition. In 2008, Phelophepa I became the first sustainable South African initiative to receive the prestigious United Nations Public Service Award for its excellence in public service delivery. Among other accolades, in 2011 Phelopheba I was honored by Texas’ Honor Society of Nursing with the Sigma Theta Tau International award, for making a visible difference in the lives of citizens in rural areas.

We have built a solid foundation and treated many South Africans in need of medical care. Looking to the future, we hope to enhance our work in the communities we serve through the following new initiatives:

Further develop and improve the trains’ infrastructure to strengthen and expand our reach.
Introduce truck service to enrich our work in villages and schools and ultimately build permanent clinics.
Modernize rail track maintenance to insure safe and continuous delivery of services.

As to bolstering our long-term goals, we have high expectations for a “Leadership & Development Project” to boost training for healthcare professionals on the Phelophepa Trains. Our focus centers on advanced diagnostic skills training, improved research and data capturing techniques, more technically advanced administration and management systems, and analysis of good governance practices.

Your generosity has helped us accomplish many feats. Our grand goal is to help rebuild South Africa’s public health and health education systems and guarantee health care access to all. With your continued commitment to Phelophepa, we know we can make this happen.

We owe it to the people we serve in South Africa, and hope that you will choose to be with us every step of the way.

The Ninth Annual, SNS Prediction Dinner (2013)

What Is SNS?

The Strategic News Service™ is the world’s most reliable source of advanced information at the intersection of technology and economics. Its publicly graded prediction rate in these areas is unmatched, and its success in pointing out critically important new strategic issues to global thought leaders – often in their own areas of expertise – is well-established. This is why Bill Gates, Paul Jacobs, Justin Rattner, Michael Dell, Steve Ballmer, Paul Ricci, Bill Janeway, and many other global intellectual, policy, and business leaders have become SNS members.

Since its 1995 inception, SNS has evolved into a global force, expressed partly through a remarkable membership, which works in three modes: to research and describe missing strategic insights into what is happening now, to accurately predict what is to be expected in the next 3-5 years, and to rally interest in accelerating the benign trends that matter most. In this way, together we have led a movement beginning with unbiased research in computing and communications, into global integration of markets and trends, and culminating in appropriate actions.

We believe that technology drives the global economy. For that reason, SNS finds its work now at the center of leverage for global leaders in every economic and policy segment. Active areas of discussion include: Computing, Communications, Cleantech, Security and Economic Cyberwar, Climate Change, Education, Finance, Fixing Healthcare, Ocean Health, Energy, Cloud Infrastructure, and more.

SNS Annual Predictions Dinner in New York: Held at the Waldorf Astoria each December since 2005, this event includes a cocktail reception and full dinner, an interview with a global leader on a topic of current SNS interest, and the release of SNS CEO Mark Anderson’s predictions about the year to come. These are then distributed by global news organizations, including the BBC World News, the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, Forbes, NPR, and others. Publicly graded predictions accuracy rate since 1995: 94%
