The 15th Concordia Annual Summit running September 21-24 opened its program with an impressive array of speakers on September 22 at the Sheraton Times Square Hotel in New York City. Attendees from 102 countries participated in the Summit which takes place each year to coincide with the United Nations General Assembly.

Nicholas Logothetis, Concordia Co-Founder and Chairman of the Board, gave the welcoming remarks along with Matthew Swift, Concordia Co-Founder, President and CEO. A video presentation screened later in the day highlighted key moments from the organization’s history.

“Fifteen years ago, Matt Swift and I started Concordia with a simple but powerful idea that the world’s most complex challenges can only be solved through collaboration,” Logothetis said. “We believe that by bringing leaders from the public and private sectors together, not just to talk, but to build tangible partnerships, we could unlock new solutions and drive real progress.”

“What began as a small forum has grown into a leading platform, for dialogue and partnership, and it’s not by accident,” Logothetis noted.

“It’s because of the vision and dedication of so many people in this room. You are the ones who turned a great idea into a powerful moment.”

George Logothetis, Executive Chairman of Libra Group and Co-chair of Concordia’s Leadership Council, gave his inspiring Leadership Remarks, addressing Concordia’s community and sharing highlights of its 15th anniversary.

“Concordia was founded with possibilities alongside an aspiration which infused all involved to strive in the timeless march to becoming the best version of oneself,” Logothetis said. “Along this journey, nothing was in easy. For nothing of true value ever is easy.”

The Keynote Speaker, His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, was introduced by Nitzia Logothetis, co-founder of the Seleni Institute, who noted that “since he ascended the throne in 1991, he has tirelessly advanced a vision that includes interfaith dialogue of coexistence, protection of our planet, and a pursuit of a world united in peace… solidarity, and love.”

His All-Holiness then gave his remarks in the crowded East Room with His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros, many Metropolitans, Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, including National Commander Dr. Anthony J. Limberakis, and many Greek-Americans present.

“Whether in Los Angeles or the island of Chios in Greece, around the globe, the destruction, the drought has wrought through exposure to fire is incontestable, as we see the warming of our seas and to see dangerous conditions increasing every year, affecting hurricanes, typhoons, and tropical cyclones across our ocean,” Patriarch Bartholomew said. “This is precisely where religion and spiritual values can serve the common cause of humanity today in a way that was not promoted in centuries past. All of us who have studied history have seen how religion can be co-opted by secular powers to establish fault lines between civilizations.”

His All-Holiness then spoke about the war in Ukraine, noting that “in the course of this unjust and unnecessary war, there is not only the incalculable human loss, but the degradation to the land and environment,” he said.

After his address at the Concordia Summit, the Patriarch met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy who is in New York for the UN General Assembly.
