A large anti-ICE protest took place in New York City on June 9, 2025, with a focus on 26 Federal Plaza, which houses both federal immigration offices and one of the city’s three immigration courts.

The protest was concentrated around 26 Federal Plaza and Foley Square in Lower Manhattan.

Demonstrators protested against the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown and increased ICE enforcement actions, including the detention of migrants attending court hearings.

Protesters gathered for rallies, speeches, and marches through the streets. Chants like “Abolish ICE” and “ICE out of NYC” were heard. Some people carried signs and flags, including Mexican and Palestinian flags.

Seven individuals were arrested during an “ICE out of NYC” demonstration held near 26 Federal Plaza on the evening of June 9 2025.

Trump Tower Protest: Earlier in the day on June 9, a separate protest involving about two dozen people took place in the lobby of Trump Tower, leading to around 24 arrests.

The protests in New York City were part of a wider series of demonstrations across the U.S. in response to concerns about immigration enforcement, including actions that led to protests and curfews in Los Angeles.

ICE has spent the past three weeks staking out immigration courthouses, arresting people attending regular court hearings — often in their attempt to apply for asylum — in the hallways, lobbies and even bathrooms of the court buildings.

It has been the epicenter of ICE activity of the past few weeks, and the street outside has been a locus for demonstrations in recent days.

Tuesday’s protest was the largest yet, with several hundred people gathering on either side of Duane Street, which is closed off to all but federal vehicles.

The demonstrators were met with dozens of NYPD officers from the Strategic Response Group on either side of the roadway.

As demonstrators tried to block the entrance to the street, NYPD officers forced their way into the crowd and pushed protesters onto adjacent sidewalks, making several aggressive arrests.
