Interview with Kenny G, Saxophone Great – 2011

Kenneth Bruce Gorelick better known by his stage name Kenny G, is an American adult contemporary and smooth jazz saxophonist. His fourth album, Duotones, brought him breakthrough success in 1986. Kenny G is the biggest-selling instrumental musician of the modern era, with global sales totaling more than 75 million records.

Kenny G signed with Arista Records as a solo artist in 1982, after label president Clive Davis heard his rendition of ABBA’s “Dancing Queen”. He has released many solo albums and collaborated with various artists including Andrea Bocelli, Whitney Houston, Peabo Bryson, Aaron Neville, Toni Braxton, DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince, Natalie Cole, Steve Miller, Weezer, Dudley Moore, Lee Ritenour, The Rippingtons, Michael Bolton, Celine Dion, Frank Sinatra, Smokey Robinson, Bebel Gilberto, George Benson, Chante Moore, and Aretha Franklin. Influenced by the likes of saxophonist Grover Washington Jr., his own albums are usually classified as smooth jazz.

Will.i.am, Founder i.am angel Foundation, at the CGI 2012

The unusual premiere speaks to Will.i.am’s larger initiative to inspire students and young people to cultivate an interest in science. At the JPL event, the artist, born William James Adams Jr., also announced a partnership between his i.am.angel Foundation and digital resource provider Discovery Education for a program called i.am.STEAM, intended to bring science, technology, engineering, art and math (or STEAM) to K-12 classrooms around the country.

Will.i.am isn’t the first musician whose music cracked Earth’s atmosphere. The Voyager deep-space probes, launched in 1977, house a copy of Chuck Berry’s “Johnny B. Goode,” for instance, but Will.i.am became the first to have a song on Mars. He initially connected with NASA after buying a $5 million time block on ABC for the back-to-school one-hour TV special “i.am.FIRST-Science Is Rock and Roll” last August. (The special was filmed at the 2011 FIRST Robotics Championships for kids.) After the show, NASA administrator Charlie Bolden was piqued by Will.i.am’s educational initiative, inviting him to attend the Curiosity launch at Cape Canaveral in November and putting in motion the idea to beam an original song on a 708 million mile round trip between Earth and Mars.

Kiss From a Rose by Seal – 2012

“Kiss From a Rose”

There used to be a graying tower alone on the sea.

You became the light on the dark side of me.

Love remained a drug that’s the high and not the pill.

But did you know,

That when it snows,

My eyes become large and

The light that you shine can be seen.

Baby,

I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the gray.

Ooh,

The more I get of you,

The stranger it feels, yeah.

And now that your rose is in bloom.

A light hits the gloom on the gray.

There is so much a man can tell you,

So much he can say.

You remain,

My power, my pleasure, my pain, baby

To me you’re like a growing addiction that I can’t deny.

Won’t you tell me is that healthy, baby?

But did you know,

That when it snows,

My eyes become large and the light that you shine can be seen.

Baby,

I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the gray.

Ooh, the more I get of you

The stranger it feels, yeah

Now that your rose is in bloom.

A light hits the gloom on the gray,

I’ve been kissed by a rose on the gray,

I’ve been kissed by a rose

I’ve been kissed by a rose on the gray,

…And if I should fall along the way

I’ve been kissed by a rose

…been kissed by a rose on the gray.

There is so much a man can tell you,

So much he can say.

You remain

My power, my pleasure, my pain.

To me you’re like a growing addiction that I can’t deny, yeah

Won’t you tell me is that healthy, baby?

But did you know,

That when it snows,

My eyes become large and the light that you shine can be seen.

Baby,

I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the gray.

Ooh, the more I get of you

The stranger it feels, yeah

Now that your rose is in bloom,

A light hits the gloom on the gray.

Yes I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the gray

Ooh, the more I get of you

The stranger it feels, yeah

And now that your rose is in bloom

A light hits the gloom on the gray

Now that your rose is in bloom,

A light hits the gloom on the gray.

Sister Act Cast Doing a Live Performance at The Made in NY Awards at Gracie Mansion, NY – 2012

Based on the 1992 film of the same name, Sister Act tells the story of aspiring disco diva Deloris Van Cartier. Trying to work her way to the top in 1970s Philadelphia, Deloris falls in love with a very tough—and very married—gangster boyfriend named Curtis, and when Deloris witnesses him commit a murder she ends up in hiding on police orders in a convent whose parish has fallen on hard times. Though the sequin-free lifestyle doesn’t agree with her, Deloris finds her calling working with the choir, and breathes new life into the dusty convent while discovering a sisterhood she’s never had before.

What Is Sister Act Like?

The show-stopping Deloris is the heart and soul of this feel-good musical. Her glamorous lifestyle and general fabulousness keep everyone rooting for her through her journey to the convent, her run-ins with the dour Mother Superior and her inspirational choir numbers, all while evading her boyfriend and the trio of singing gangsters hot on her tail. Modern Broadway ballads make way for rousing all-cast production numbers in the infectious score from eight-time Oscar winner Alan Menken. Who wouldn’t love nuns in sequins, unlikely friendships, the solidarity of Sisterhood and a happy ending?

World Liberty TV was on hand while Raven-Symoné and the cast of Sister Act did a live performance at The Made in NY Awards at Gracie Mansion, NY.

Alicia Keys’ Live Performance of Her Song ‘Karma’ at The Monster Concert in Las Vegas – 2013

Lyrics to Karma

Weren’t you the one that said
That you don’t want me anymore
And how you need your space
And give the keys back to your door
And how I cried and tried
And tried to make you stay with me
But still you said the love was gone
And that I had to leave

(Now you) Talkin’ bout a family
(Now you) Sayin’ I complete your dream
(Now you) Sayin’ I’m your everything
You’re confusing me, what you say to me
Don’t play with me, don’t play with me, ’cause

What goes around, comes around
What goes up, must come down
Now who’s cryin’, desirin’ to come back to me
What goes around, comes around
What goes up, must come down
Now who’s cryin’, desirin’ to come back

I remember when I was sittin’ home alone
Waiting for you ’til three o’clock in the morn

And when you came home
You’d always have some sorry excuse
Half explaining to me
Like I’m just some kind of a fool
I sacrificed the things I want
Just to do things for you
But when it’s time to do for me
You never come through

(Now you) Want to be up under me
(Now you) Have so much to say to me, hey
(Now) Want to make time for me
What you do to me, your confusing me
Don’t play with me, don’t play with me, ’cause

What goes around, comes around
What goes up, must come down
Now who’s cryin, desirin’ to come back to me
What goes around, comes around
What goes up, must come down
Now who’s cryin, desirin’ to come back

I remember when I was sittin’ home alone
Waiting for you ’til three o’clock in the morn
Night after night, knowing somethin’ goin’ on
Wasn’t long before I be g-g-gone
Lord knows it wasn’t easy, believe me
Never thought you’d be the one that would deceive me
And never do what you supposed to do
No need to approach me boo, ’cause I’m over you

What goes around, comes around
What goes up, must come down
Now who’s cryin’, desirin’ to come back to me
What goes around, comes around
What goes up, must come down
Gotta stop cryin’, to come back to me

Alicia Keys’ Live Performance of Her Song ‘You Don’t Know My Name’ at The Monster Concert in Las Vegas 2013.

Lyrics to You Don’t Know My Name by Alicia Keys

Baby, baby, baby
From the day I saw you
I really really want to catch your eye
There’s something special ’bout you
I must really like you
Cause not a lotta guys are worth my time

It’s gettin kind of crazy
Cause you are takin over my mind
And it feels like oooooo
But you don’t know my name
And I swear it feels like ooooo ooooo ooooo ooooo
You don’t know my name
(round and round and round we go, will you ever know)

Oh baby baby baby
I see us on our first date
You’re doin everything that makes me smile
And when we had our first kiss
It happened on a Thursday
Ooooo it set my soul on fire
Ooo baby baby baby
I can’t wait for the first time
My imagination’s runnin wild
It feels like ooooo
You don’t know my name
And I swear it baby, it feels like oooo ooooo ooooo ooooo
You don’t know my name
(round and round and round we go, will you ever know)

“I’m sayin, he don’t even know what he’s doin’ to me
Got me feelin’ all crazy inside
I’m feelin like”
Owww! Ooooo Oooooo
Doin more than I’ve ever done for anyone’s attention
Take notice of what’s in front of you
Cause did I mention you’re ’bout to miss a good thing
And you’ll never know how good it feels to have all of my affection
And you’ll never get a chance to experience my lovin’
Cause my lovin’ feels like ooooooo
You don’t know my name
(round and round and round we go, will you ever know
And I swear it feels like oooo ooooo ooooo ooooo
You don’t know my name
(round and round and round we go, will you ever know)
Ohhh

Will you ever know it, no no no no no
Will you ever know it?
“I’m gonna have to just go ahead and call this boy.
Hello? Can I speak to — to Michael?
Oh hey, how you doin?
Uh, I feel kinda silly doin’ this,
But um, this is the waitress from the coffee house on 39th and Lennox
You know, the one with the braids?
Yeah, well I see you on Wednesdays all the time
You come in every Wednesday on your lunch break, I think
And you always order the special, with the hot chocolate
And my manager be tripping and stuff
Talking bout we gotta use water
But I always use some milk and cream for you
Cause I think you’re kinda sweet.
Anyway you always got on some fly blue suit
‘n your cufflinks are shining all bright
So, whatchu do? Oh, word? Yeah, that’s interesting
Look man, I mean I don’t wanna waste your time but
I know girls don’t usually do this,
But I was wondering if maybe we could get together
Outside the restaurant one day
Cause I do look a lot different outside my work clothes
I mean we could just go across the street to the park right here
Wait, hold up, my cell phone’s breakin up, hold up
Can you hear me now? Yeah
So, what day did you say?
Oh yeah, Thursday’s perfect, man:.”

And it feels like oooo
You don’t know my name
(round and round and round we go, will you ever know)
Baby Baby I swear it’s like oooooo
You don’t know my name, no no no
(round and round and round we go, will you ever know)
And it feels like oooo
You don’t know my name
(round and round and round we go, will you ever know)

And I swear on my mother and father it feels like
Oooo ooo oooo ooo ooo ooo
Oooo ooo oooo ooo ooo ooo
Oooo ooo oooo ooo ooo ooo
You don’t know my name
(round and round and round we go, will you ever know?)

Alicia Keys’ Live Performance of Her Song ‘Girl On Fire’ at The Monster Concert in Las Vegas – 2013

Girl on Fire LYRICS:

She’s just a girl, and she’s on fire
Hotter than a fantasy, longer like a highway
She’s living in a world, and it’s on fire
Feeling the catastrophe, but she knows she can fly away

Oh, she got both feet on the ground
And she’s burning it down
Oh, she got her head in the clouds
And she’s not backing down

This girl is on fire
This girl is on fire
She’s walking on fire
This girl is on fire

Looks like a girl, but she’s a flame
So bright, she can burn your eyes
Better look the other way
You can try but you’ll never forget her name
She’s on top of the world
Hottest of the hottest girls say

Oh, we got our feet on the ground
And we’re burning it down
Oh, got our head in the clouds
And we’re not coming down

This girl is on fire
This girl is on fire
She’s walking on fire
This girl is on fire

Everybody stands, as she goes by
Cause they can see the flame that’s in her eyes
Watch her when she’s lighting up the night
Nobody knows that she’s a lonely girl
And it’s a lonely world
But she gon’ let it burn, baby, burn, baby

This girl is on fire
This girl is on fire
She’s walking on fire
This girl is on fire

Oh, oh, oh…

She’s just a girl, and she’s on fire
