Global Han Couture Designs From China – 2011

Many contemporary fashion designs incorporate such timeless Chinese elements as dragons, calligraphy, and Buddhas. But what can this rich and ancient culture offer in addition to those exotic elements? Can traditional oriental culture bring a new spirit to modern fashion?

China is comprised of many different ethnicities, but Han culture has been the most prevalent since ancient times. Han Couture consists of the clothing worn by ethnic Hans, as well as those whom they inspired, from thousands of years ago up until the end of the Ming Dynasty in the 17th century. The defining characteristics of Han Couture are its unique collars and lapels; wide, flowing sleeves; and the use of a sash in place of buttons. The look is refined, reserved, and noble, rendered in the finest fabrics, often with exquisite embroidered details and other embellishments.

Clothing and accessories of Han Couture are inseparable from the semi-divine culture of China. The Buddhist and Daoist belief in maintaining harmony between Heaven and mankind was reflected in every aspect of society including clothing and style. Han Couture reached its peak in the Tang, Song and Ming Dynasties, with Chinese culture absorbing aspects from other regions and with different countries being highly influenced by Chinese culture. For example, today’s Japanese kimono and Korean hanbok still retain features of Tang Dynasty dress.

NYFW Gallery Showcase of Designer ese AZeNABOR-2015

Esé Azénabor’s designs are inspired by the arts and her culture. They are daring, luxurious, extravagant, and shows her artistic side through her beading and attention to detail.
As the saying goes, Nigerian born Canadian transplant Esé Azénabor got to Texas as fast as she could. Her arrival on the fashion scene, however, required a few additional detours. But we think you’ll agree her creations were well worth the wait.

Hailing from a family who considered fashion design more of a hobby than a career, young Esé had to sweep her creative urges under the rug. The Azénabor name was grounded in the fields of medicine, law, and engineering, and she, in turn, attended the University of Windsor in Windsor in Ontario, Canada, and majored in accounting. A move to Dallas followed, to pursue a Masters Degree at Southern Methodist University, detoured to following her dreams and started designed handmade dresses for her self, friends and family. Since she was a little girl, Esé held to her mother’s belief in her talent for creating wearable art.

In 2012, without any financial assistance, this self-taught designer traded predictable college life for the wild world of fashion with the launch of her Self Titled ready-to-wear line. At her sewing machine, she conceptualized her fascination for heavy hand beading, crocheted lace, exquisite fabrics and embroidery. Inspired by a combination of vintage, African, Egyptian, and contemporary European influences, she merged cultures to create her debut of her Haute-Couture and Ready-to-wear luxurious collection. Esé has now debuted three collections and teamed up with her sister Dosé Azénabor to create her most recent SS15 Collection and today they are now partners for the fashion Label.

Esé Azénabor’s goal is to empower women through the art of fashion.

In classical China’s 2300 year core, there is a philosophy that man is an integral part of nature. A strong expression of this ancient Chinese theory is the human lifestyle following up on the rules of nature, combining itself with it’s subject on an essential, serene, and ecstatic order.

Zhuliang Li is so strongly inspired by this belief that he adapted it into his fashion by designing a unique ‘all-in-one style’, for all body-types, in subtle sophisticated detail with distinction in silhouette. Li’s design and style emphasize on the relaxed, spontaneous, pleasant awareness. When you put ‘OUDIFU’ on, you bring modern humans closer to nature.

In 1981 at age 11, Zhuliang Li, the 7th of 8 children, was sent by his parents to a tailor to learn the fundamentals of design. Zhuliang Li never went to fashion school. This was how and when Zhuliang Li began his fashion passage, detailing styles for various individuals, as well as face-to-face communication with the customer, bequeathing himself with a deep sense of consciousness for different female body type configurations…their shapes, needs, and wants.

Accordingly, Zhuliang Li, gained numerous industry awards including CQGC ‘Best Fashion Brand 2009’, ‘Top 10 Chinese Fashion Designers 2011’, and ‘Top 10 Fashion Brands Shanghai International Fashion Festival 2012’.

Exclusive interview with Beverly Johnson Black Supermodel- 2014

World Liberty TV fashion team had the pleasure of interviewing Beverly Johnson at the Emerge Fashion Show where she was honored for this year’s Fashion Innovator Award.
Born into a middle-class family in Buffalo, New York, Johnson was a champion swimmer in her youth and aspired to be a lawyer. She was studying political science at Northeastern University when she tried modeling. She quickly landed an assignment with Glamour and began working steadily. She went on to appear on more than 500 magazine covers, including her groundbreaking Vogue cover in August 1974. Her appearance on the cover changed the beauty ideal in US fashion, and by 1975, every major American fashion designer had begun using African-American models.

In addition to modeling, Johnson has also written a book, Beverly Johnson’s Guide to a Life of Health and Beauty, and embarked on an acting career. She has also had roles in the films Ashanti (1979), The Meteor Man (1993), Def Jam’s How to Be a Player (1997), and Crossroads (2002). She has appeared in guest spots on several television series, including Law & Order, Lois & Clark: the New Adventures of Superman, the Parent ‘Hood and the Super Bowl episode of 3rd Rock from the Sun (1998). She served for two seasons as a celebrity judge on the TV Land series She’s Got the Look, a reality series, where women over 35 compete for a modeling contract and magazine spread. At the start of the series in 2008, Johnson shared that she and other models had suffered from anorexia and bulimia during her career. She had a brief singing career, releasing one album in 1979 on Buddah Records.

Johnson has been a longtime hair and beauty influencer. Beginning with the Beverly Johnson Eyewear Signature Collection in Sears Optical (1991-2002) to her Beverly Johnson Wig and Hair Extension Signature Collection (1996-2011), she was among the first supermodels to cross into the business of fashion. Partnered with Amekor, she launched the Beverly Johnson Hair Collection, a line of wigs and hair products for the African-American market. In 2010, she introduced a line of restorative and styling hair care products to Target. She currently runs Beverly Johnson Enterprises, a company that produces hair extensions.
