Dr. Oz is a celebrity heart surgeon who gained fame as a regular on ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’ before starring in ‘The Dr. Oz Show.’ Dr. Oz is a renowned heart surgeon who has brought complementary medicine into the mainstream as a television personality, radio host and author. His first TV show, Second Opinion with Dr. Oz, lasted just one season, but regular gigs on Oprah Winfrey’s show cemented his celebrity doctor status. Oz now hosts his own health-centric TV series, The Dr. Oz Show.
In 1994, Oz established the Cardiovascular Institute and Integrative Medicine Program at New York-Presbyterian Hospital. Media exposure followed, and with his wife, he co-authored the book Healing from the Heart: A Leading Surgeon Combines Eastern and Western Traditions to Create the Medicine of the Future, which was released in 1998.
After Oz landed Winfrey as a guest on his show, a warm working relationship developed. The talk show queen invited the surgeon to make regular appearances on her TV series, The Oprah Winfrey Show, and her radio program, Oprah & Friends. Anointed “America’s doctor” by Winfrey, Oz embraced his celebrity status with guest spots on a number of news programs and talk shows. He also began publishing the bestselling YOU book series and penning columns for Esquire and other media outlets.
Oz’s popularity rose to such heights that Winfrey offered to co-produce a TV series for him. The Dr. Oz Show debuted in 2009 to the highest daytime TV ratings on record in nine years and went on to win numerous Emmy Awards.
In addition to hosting the TV show, Oz continues to serve as vice-chairman and professor of surgery at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He also branched out into a new form of media in 2014 with the launch of a lifestyle magazine, The Good Life.
Married since 1985, the couple has collaborated on numerous projects, including the bestselling YOU book series. They have four children, with their oldest daughter, Daphne, following in her father’s footsteps as a TV host and author.

Ben Affleck, is an American actor and filmmaker. He began his career as a child actor, starring in the PBS educational series The Voyage of the Mimi (1984, 1988). He later appeared in the coming-of-age comedy Dazed and Confused (1993) and various Kevin Smith films including Chasing Amy (1997) and Dogma (1999). Affleck gained fame when he and childhood friend Matt Damon won the Golden Globe and Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for Good Will Hunting (1997). He then starred in high-profile films including Armageddon (1998), Shakespeare in Love (1998), Pearl Harbor (2001), Changing Lanes (2002) and The Sum of All Fears (2002). After a career downturn, during which he appeared in Daredevil and Gigli (both 2003), Affleck received a Golden Globe nomination for his performance in Hollywoodland (2006).
Affleck’s directorial debut, Gone Baby Gone (2007), which he also co-wrote, was well received. He then directed, co-wrote, and starred in the crime drama The Town (2010). For the political thriller Argo (2012), which he directed and starred in, Affleck won the Golden Globe and BAFTA Award for Best Director, and the Golden Globe, BAFTA and Academy Award for Best Picture. In 2014, he starred in the psychological thriller Gone Girl. Affleck portrayed the superhero Batman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad (both 2016). The gangster drama Live by Night, which Affleck directed, wrote, produced, and acted in, will be released in early 2017.
Affleck is the co-founder of the Eastern Congo Initiative, a grantmaking and advocacy-based nonprofit organization. He is also a stalwart member of the Democratic Party. His younger brother is actor Casey Affleck, with whom he has worked on several films including Good Will Hunting and Gone Baby Gone. Following high-profile relationships with Gwyneth Paltrow and Jennifer Lopez, Affleck married Jennifer Garner in 2005. Affleck has two daughters and a son with Garner, from whom he separated in June 2015.

Based on the 1992 film of the same name, Sister Act tells the story of aspiring disco diva Deloris Van Cartier. Natalie Maria Cole is an American singer, songwriter and performer. The daughter of Nat King Cole, Cole rose to musical success in the mid-1970s as a R&B artist with the hits “This Will Be (An Everlasting Love)”, “Inseparable” and “Our Love”. After a period of failing sales and performances due to a heavy drug addiction, Cole reemerged as a pop artist with the 1987 album, Everlasting, and her cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “Pink Cadillac”. In the 1990s, she re-recorded standards by her father, resulting in her biggest success, Unforgettable…with Love, which sold over seven million copies and also won Cole numerous Grammy Awards. In November 2011, Zuffa took New York State to federal court in a case that was entirely dismissed in 2015. Months after the dismissal, Zuffa filed another lawsuit, but in early 2016 New York made professional MMA legal. On July 11, 2016, Lorenzo Fertitta confirmed months of reports that UFC had been sold. In a television interview, Fertitta said the majority of UFC would be owned by William Morris Endeavor-International Management Group (WME-IMG). WME-IMG reportedly outbid other companies with a $4 billion offer to Zuffa. The Fertitta brothers would become minority owners, while Dana White retained the title of President and his minority ownership.

Kevin David Sorbo is an American actor. He had starring roles in two television series: as Hercules in Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, and as Captain Dylan Hunt in Andromeda.
In 1994, he got his breakthrough leading role as the Ancient Greek mythical demigod Hercules in a series of five television films which aired as part of Universal Television’s Action Pack.
The first film was Hercules and the Amazon Women which aired in April and the fifth film Hercules in the Maze of the Minotaur aired in November.
The ratings success of these films paved the way for the commissioning of the television series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys which started airing in syndication from January 1995 and ran for six seasons. The series made Sorbo an international star and was one of the highest rated syndicated television shows at the time.
In late 1997 while on a publicity tour for Kull the Conqueror and between the fourth and fifth seasons of Hercules, the newly engaged Sorbo experienced an aneurysm in his shoulder which caused four strokes.
As a result, he was weakened for the next several years, a condition kept secret from the public while he recovered. During the last two seasons of Hercules (the fifth and sixth, which aired in 1998 and 1999), Sorbo had a reduced filming schedule to accommodate his condition, and more guest stars were featured in the show in order to reduce Sorbo’s duties.
The strokes, thought to be triggered when chiropractic manipulation of his shoulder released blood clots from the aneurysm, left Sorbo with a permanent 10 percent vision loss, weakness, impaired balance, and migraines. In his 2011 autobiography True Strength, Sorbo revealed the details of his injury and how his wife Sam helped him recover.

The unusual premiere speaks to Will.i.am’s larger initiative to inspire students and young people to cultivate an interest in science. At the JPL event, the artist, born William James Adams Jr., also announced a partnership between his i.am.angel Foundation and digital resource provider Discovery Education for a program called i.am.STEAM, intended to bring science, technology, engineering, art and math (or STEAM) to K-12 classrooms around the country.
Will.i.am isn’t the first musician whose music cracked Earth’s atmosphere. The Voyager deep-space probes, launched in 1977, house a copy of Chuck Berry’s “Johnny B. Goode,” for instance, but Will.i.am became the first to have a song on Mars. He initially connected with NASA after buying a $5 million time block on ABC for the back-to-school one-hour TV special “i.am.FIRST-Science Is Rock and Roll” last August. (The special was filmed at the 2011 FIRST Robotics Championships for kids.) After the show, NASA administrator Charlie Bolden was piqued by Will.i.am’s educational initiative, inviting him to attend the Curiosity launch at Cape Canaveral in November and putting in motion the idea to beam an original song on a 708 million mile round trip between Earth and Mars.
WNET President-Emeritus Bill Baker hosted the 9th annual Giants of Broadcasting ceremony on October 14th. The ceremony paid homage to thirteen “media giants” who transformed the broadcasting industry over a span of seven decades. The luncheon was held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, where guests wined and dined while enjoying celebratory montages and acceptance speeches.
Honorees included Brian Williams, Christiane Amanpour, Fred Pierce, Charles Kralt, Robert Northshield, Charles Osgood, Rand Morrison, John Dille III, Brian Lamb, Frances Preston, James Arness, Rick Buckley, and Dawson ‘Tack’ Nail.
While most honorees spoke of their past achievements, current ABC international correspondent Christiane Amanpour discussed her hopes for the future of broadcasting. “I do hope in the future that we see many more women on the screen, and that there is a balance between men and women,” she said. “I would like to see the day where women were not judged by the amount of highlights in their hair, not judged by the shortness of their hemlines or deeply plunging cleavages, but [judged] for their professionalism, competence, and the quality of their work.”
The ceremony acknowledged that broadcasting is still relevant. The awards honored media entrepreneurs of the past alongside broadcasting icons of the present. The late James Arness and Dawson ‘Tack’ Nail were commemorated for paving the way for twenty-first century journalism. Meanwhile, CBS anchor Charles Osgood and NBC correspondent Brian Williams continue to make waves in modern day broadcasting.
The ceremony was sponsored by the Library of American Broadcasting, which acts to preserve historical records from past television and radio broadcasts. Their ultimate goal is to “make records available to a wide audience of academia, industry, and the public, while simultaneously keeping a weather eye on the future”. The luncheon is the Library’s biggest fundraising event of the year.
