The Latino Commission on AIDS will pay tribute and recognize the following leaders during the annual Cielo benefit gala:
• Dr. Demetre Daskalakis, Assistant Commissioner of the Bureau of HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene -Esperanza Award
• Victor Martinez, Program Manager, Long Beach Center of Bienestar -Dennis de León Voz de Compromiso Award

Miss Universe 2015 Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach will be announced as the newest Madrina of the Latino Commission on AIDS.

International plus-size model, Denise Bidot will present the Dennis de León Voz de Compromiso Award.

Live entertainment will be provided by the Grammy-winning Spanish Harlem Orchestra led by Oscar Hernandez, as well as the renowned Mariachi Band “Flor de Toloache.” Special performances by Swiss singer, songwriter and performer Bastian Baker and TommY BoY recording artist Jamar Rogers, who was a finalist on season 2 of The Voice and is living with HIV, will also be part of the gala program.

Actor J.W Cortes, best known for his role as Detective Carlos Alvarez in “GOTHAM” and NBC 4 New York news anchor Sibila Vargas will co-host the evening. Other special appearances: actress April Lee Hernandez and fashion shoe designer Brian Atwood.

The Cielo Gala raises funds in support of the Latino Commission on AIDS to create and promote HIV and AIDS service programs and initiatives aimed at increased awareness, prevention, and treatment education for Hispanic/Latinos, as well as to build capacity among other HIV/AIDS organizations serving Latino communities throughout the U.S. and the Territories. The evening will consist of a cocktail reception and silent auction, followed by dinner and an awards presentation. Macy’s, the presenting sponsor of the silent auction, has teamed up with Bobbi Brown to bring Cielo guests’ make-up touch-ups during the Silent Auction followed by pictures at their photo station.

Farouk Shami was born on the 15th December 1942, in Beit Ur al-Tahta, Ramallah, West Bank, Palestine and is an entrepreneur, best known as the founder and owner of the hair and skin care production company based in Texas, USA called Farouk Systems. Shami was also known through being a candidate for the Texas gubernatorial position in the elections held in 2010. Farouk has been active in the beauty industry since the early 1970s.

How much is the net worth of Farouk Shami? It has been estimated by authoritative sources that the outright size of his wealth is as much as $700 million, as of the data presented in early 2017. The beauty industry is the major source of Shami’s fortune.Farouk Shami Net Worth $700 Million.To begin with, Shami moved to the USA in 1965. He graduated from the University of Arkansas, and was then a student of the cosmetology school based in Arkansas.

Regarding his professional career, Shami has been working in the development of hair care products for many years. At the start, he even developed an allergy to ammonia substances and was recommended to leave this profession. Yet, Shami was so passionate about his work that he wouldn’t even consider leaving, and on the contrary, he invented hair colouring which is ammonia free. So successful was Farouk that not only is he the founder of the hair and skin care production company Farouk Systems, but it currently employs more than 600 people just in the US. Their production is known all over the world, and the brands such as Cationic Hydration Interlin, BioSilk and SunGlitz are really popular. They export their production to more than 106 countries all over the world. Farouk Systems is the major source of Farouk Shami net worth.

In 2009, Farouk Shami participated in the election for governor of Texas position, as a member of the Democratic Party, and became involved in several controversies concerning religious issues and the 11th September attacks. During the campaign he revealed that he does not belong to any religious organization but has a personal bond with God. Another controversy was the statement that Farouk was not sure if the government of the USA was involved in the attacks of 11th September. Probably due to these controversies he lost the election to the politician Bill White.

In 2010, Farouk Shami served on the board of the American Task Force on Palestine.Moreover, Shami was friends with the current President of the USA Donald Trump. Together they have participated in the Miss Universe and Miss USA pageants as well as in the reality television show “Celebrity Apprentice”, with Farouk providing sponsorship, but things changed after Trump’s anti-Hispanic remarks. However, Trump is believed to be using the CHI Helmet Head product made by Farouk System’s.

Finally, in the personal life of Farouk Shami, he has been married to Izziah Shami since 1961. They have an only child Basim Shami, who is also known for his work in the beauty industry. Currently, he is the President and CEO of the Beauty Elite Group.

Barli Asmara discovered his passion for art and fashion at an early age. Following his dream, he launched his signature label in 2002, producing high-end ready-to-wear and couture womenswear. Today his designs include couture, bridal and business wear, as well as menswear.

Mr. Asmara’s beautiful and distinctive designs have garnered many accolades and awards including AMICA Young Talented Designer Award, ELLE Designer of The Year, Bazaar Wedding, one of the Best 20 Designers for High End Masterpiece, Kartika Magazine’s Best Designer of The Year, as well as one of Dewi Magazine’s best Indonesia Fashion Designers of 2008. Mr. Asmara served as designer for the 2011 Puteri Indonesia pageant and for the winner, Nadine Alexandra, when she went on to compete in the Miss Universe pageant. He was part of Indonesia’s DKI Jakarta Dinas Pariwisata delegation at the Melbourne Festival, and a participating designer in multiple editions of the Rumah Pesona Kain fashion event, as well as the International Textiles and Costume Congress in 2011. He has shown his collections at prestigious fashion events including Jakarta Fashion Week, Indonesia Fashion Week, Mazda Marie Claire Fashion Show, and Bazaar Movie Textra, to name just a few. He is a member of IPMI (Ikatan Perancang Mode Indonesia, the Indonesian Fashion Designers Association).

Barli Asmara is dedicated to representing the beauty and richness of Indonesian handcrafts and classic artisan techniques in his collections which are known for the their exquisite detailing. Elmer Figueroa Arce better known under the stage name Chayanne, is a Puerto Rican Latin pop singer, actor and composer. As a solo artist, Chayanne has released 21 solo albums and sold over 30 million albums worldwide. After Los Chicos separated in 1984, Chayanne began his career as a solo artist. He signed with RCA Ariola and released his first album, Chayanne es mi Nombre, that year. His second album with RCA, Sangre Latina was released in 1986.

After three years with RCA, Chayanne switched labels to Sony Music and broke out with his first self-titled album in 1987. This album featured a blend of ballads and dance tracks, a formula for which Chayanne would be famous. It featured two hit songs, the ballad “Peligro de Amor” written by Michael Sullivan and Paulo Massadas and a song that would cement him as an overall performer, the upbeat dance track “Fiesta en América” written by Honorio Herrero.

Following the album’s release, Chayanne began an international tour to promote Mi Tiempo. Among the places visited early in the tour were Mexico, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, and the United States. On August 24, 2008, he began a series of presentations in Spain. When interviewed he noted that the concert would be fluid “like a musical”, and “more Latin” than his previous presentations, being composed of “more pop, Brazilian, Caribbean and reggae rhythms” which he would use to “dance constantly”. He also gave a special performance in Miss Universe 2003 pageant.

In the 1980s, Chayanne participated in several soap operas and starred in the comedy series Generaciones with Luis Antonio Rivera. More recently, he has received several offers for acting jobs, but he has declined most of them for conflicting with his musical career, which he considers his priority.
