Plant Based World Expo 2022-NY Javits Center

The third Plant Based World Expo North America (PBW) returned to the Javits Center in New York on September 8 and 9, 2022. Attendees at the 100% plant-based B2B industry event enjoyed innovative new plant-based products, informative and inspiring speakers, and exclusive networking opportunities. There were 3,722 attendees, up roughly 20% from 2021 and 232 exhibitors.

“The response to this year’s Plant Based World Expo has been tremendous,” said Chris Nemchek, General Manager. “One of our goals this year was to improve the audience quality and increase the number of retail and foodservice buyers at the show, and we are thrilled to report that we increased the number of buyers by 20%.”

Trends on display included: Mushroom-based meats, snacks and jerky from Fable, Popadelics and Eat the Change.Plant-based meats and seafoods from companies such as Atlas Monroe, Hoya, Unlimeat, The Blue Butcher, Mind Blown Seafood, and Finless Foods.

Functional foods and beverages from Broma, True North, Remedy and Purposefuel.  Snacks galore from Rule Breaker Snacks, Lupii, Mozaics, and Fat Badger.Global culinary creativity and chef-crafted products. Convenient and accessible frozen and prepared entrees from companies such as Strong Roots and Wicked Foods.

Elevated plant-based cheeses from Good Plant Foods, Bedda Cheese, Selfish Cow Plant Based Cheese, Plant Perks, Nuts for Cheese, Wildbrine, and Miyoko’s Creamery.

“The success of this year’s Plant Based World Expo demonstrates the continued excitement around the plant-based foods industry,” said Rachel Dreskin, CEO of PBFA and The Institute. “Thanks to the strength of our partnership with the PBW team, we were able to put on a fantastic show featuring impactful conference sessions and so many meaningful opportunities for our members to connect with industry leaders and buyers. We look forward to continued growth and the expansion of our joint mission to showcase the power of plant-based.”

The show’s exhibitors were enthusiastic about their experiences at the show, citing great connections and the chance to showcase their products to a highly qualified audience as reasons why they plan to return next year.

“This was Mind Blown’s first year exhibiting at the show and it was incredible start to finish,” said Monica Talbert, co-founder of Mind Blown Plant Based Seafood Company. “The energy and excitement from attendees and other exhibitors was truly electric and so many quality connections really makes PBW a show not to miss!”

Whether they were sampling delicious plant-based frozen desserts and mouth-watering plant-based entrees or learning from expert speakers, celebrity chefs, and industry leaders, attendees agreed that this was the best PBW yet.

“The show has been incredible. We’ve made a lot of good contacts with all the right people to get our product into the right places. We’re looking forward to next year,” said Marc Elkman, co-founder, Mighty Yum.

“This was our first time coming to the show and we have made many amazing connections here–it gives me goosebumps–and we’re excited about following up and our future,” said Camille Holder-Brown, co-founder, Kale Cafe.

Queens Centers for Progress (QCP) Evening of Fine Food at Terrace on the Park-2022

We are excited for the event’s much anticipated return to the Queens community for its 26th year! Evening of Fine Food is a well-attended business networking event that attracts the top restaurants and chefs in our neighborhoods and benefits the more than 1,200 individuals we serve,in-person and remotely, at our Adult and Children Centers in Jamaica and Bellerose, Queens.

For more than 25 years, QCP’s Evening of Fine Food event has provided an informal networking setting for people from the Queens Business community to socialize as they sampled gourmet delicacies provided by dozens of Queens’ restaurants and chefs. Each year, this annual event benefits the individuals QCP supports, in-person and remotely, at our Adult and Children Centers and enables us to continue to do what we do best – promote independence and provide our participants with the resources they need to live their best lives!

As we continue to navigate and adapt through these ever-changing times, QCP continues to make the safety and health of our guests and supporters a priority. This year’s event will be hybrid with enjoyable programming both online and in-person!  We plan to continue providing our guests with an exciting, enjoyable, and interactive experience that they have grown to love over the last two decades.

Other Dignitaries in attendance were : Donovan Richards, Queens Borough President, James F. Gennaro, Council member for 24th District, Shekar Krishnan Council Member for 25th District, Vickie Paladino – New York City Council  for District 19, Assembly Member David Weprin and many more politicians in attendance.

Live entertainment was done by Jim Altamore “The Frank Sinatra Songbook, Comedians, Suzzanne Windland and Sandeep Sen, Magician was Apollo Riego.

Close to 300 people were in attendance, it was great food, wine, guests and a great cause to support.

We want to give a shout out to our dear friend Wendy Phaff Gennaro, Director of Development for Queens Centers of Progress for organizing alongside her Volunteers and doing a wonderful job.

27th Annual Mexican Day Parade NYC -2021

NEW YORK, NY — Mexican Independence Day is this Sunday, when crowds of proud Latinos will flood the streets of Midtown Manhattan for the annual parade. Marchers traveled down Madison Avenue from 38th Street to 27th Street, between noon and 4 p.m., to celebrate this historic day that occurred more than 200 years ago in one of our nation’s closest neighboring countries.

NYC Mexican Day celebrates Mexican Independence Day, September 16, 1810.Mexican Independence Day celebrates “El Grito de Dolores” (The Cry of Dolores), Father Hidalgo’s call for the Mexican people to revolt against Spanish rule from the town of Dolores Hidalgo on this day in 1810.This year’s parade is dedicated to the front-line, essential workers who kept The City going at great personal cost, during the pandemic. Visitors from Mexico include representatives from Morelos state, whose capital is Cuernavaca. The state has a very even climate. Because of this, it’s been a wintering place for the Mexican elite since Aztec times.The Club Migrante Chinelos de Morelos en Nueva York is being honored. Chinelos are traditional masked carnival dancers from Morelos.

The dancers make fun of European colonizers including the Spanish, French and Mexican President Porfirio Díaz who tried to Europeanize Mexico. Chinelos are often accompanied by bandas, Mexican brass marching bands. Celebrants are wearing black pants and white shirts in honor of essential workers. Mexican New Yorkers dominate NYC’s food industry. No matter the type of food, it’s often prepared by Mexican chefs.

The Mexican Day Parade (or Mexican Independence Parade) celebrates Mexico’s independence from Spain. The parade began in the 1990s.New York City has seen a large increase in immigrants from Mexico. The parade has grown significantly, and Mayor Michael Bloomberg marched in the 12th annual Mexican Day Parade on September 18, 2005.The Mexican Independence Parade in New York City is a great celebration that brings together many colorful floats, musical and artistic groups, dancers representing different regions of Mexico, and community leaders.

This magnificent event is promoted throughout the Tri- state area which includes Spanish and English radio, TV and newspapers. The parade counts on an attendance of 10,000 people.

Thousands of people were in attendance, Eric Adams, Mayoral candidate for the Democratic party was in attendance with so many people holding up his pictures and banners and offering their support for him. He went on to say, I love all communities and that the Mexican community in New York is a great and hardworking community and he has total respect for them.There were many bands like Academia De Mariachi Nuevo Amanecer (A.M.N.A) , Mariachi Habaniros, 89.3 FM Radio Station and Luis Gomez Alfaro world renowned Immigration attorney was in attendance and many more people from all professions in attendance to celebrate 27th Annual Mexican Parade.
