Institute for the Puerto-Rican/Hispanic Elderly Gala

Suleika Cabrera Drinane, Founder and President of Institute for the Puerto Rican Hispanic Elderly, Inc. addresses the crowd of over 1,000 that attended her 33rd annual gala event held at the prestigious New York Hilton. The work done by Suleika and IPRHE is very important and has enhanced the lives of senior citizens in the Eastern seaboard of the United States, especially in the City and state of New York.

Dewey Bozella, Former Amateur Boxer Best Known For Being Wrongfully Convicted of Murder, Gives Keynote Speech at The BWAA – New York, 2012

Dewey Bozella (born 1959) is a former amateur boxer who is best known for being imprisoned for a conviction which was eventually overturned. Convicted in 1983 for the murder of an elderly woman, Bozella served 26 years in prison before his conviction was overturned in 2009. Bozella had previously served nearly three years in prison for attempted robbery.

On October 28, 2009, after being released from custody, Bozella began working with youths at a local gym in Newburgh, New York. At the gym, which is now closed, he worked with teenagers teaching them about boxing and about the dangers of joining gangs. He frequently visits various organizations to deliver speeches about his life experiences. Bozella is a frequent sight at New York City area boxing cards.

Bozella currently lives in Fishkill, New York with his wife, Trena. While accepting an award in 2011, he told an ESPN reporter that he still dreamed of having at least one professional fight one day. In 2011, boxing champion Bernard Hopkins helped Bozella’s dream come true.

World-class surgeons and medical providers at the finest facilities in NYC volunteer their time to provide the best corrective surgery and medical care to children and their families who are in financial need worldwide. We arrange travel to and from New York City for children to undergo needed corrective surgical procedures at no expense to the patient or their families.

Since our founding by Dr. Thomas Romo III and co-founder Lauralouise Duffy-Blatt in 2002, more than 250 children born with facial deformities have had their lives transformed with help from the LBFF.
