45th Annual NYU International Hospitality Industry Conference

Renowned hospitality industry and business leaders and influencers from around the globe will convene once again at the 45th Annual NYU International Hospitality Industry Investment Conference, hosted by the NYU School of Professional Studies Jonathan M. Tisch Center of Hospitality.

The Penn District, was a great place to do an event on this magnitude, which was the former Manhattan Mall, The Event spaces were very easy to get to and there was a lot of room to walk and meet different vending brands.

Tory Burch is Chairman, CEO and Designer of Tory Burch, an American sportswear and lifestyle brand. Raised in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, Tory graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in art history, then moved to New York to pursue a career in the fashion industry. She worked in public relations and marketing for several American designers, including Ralph Lauren, Vera Wang and Narciso Rodriguez at Loewe.

Elizabeth A. Sackler, PhD is a Public Historian and human rights activist. Her lifetime of activism was the subject of the January 2016 New York Times’ Women in the World feature. She is the President of The Arthur M. Sackler Foundation, President and founder of the American Indian Ritual Object Repatriation Foundation, President of the Elizabeth A. Sackler Foundation, Board Chair of the Brooklyn Museum, and founder of the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art at the Brooklyn Museum.

Melissa Mark-Viverito, New York City Council Speaker

Melissa Mark-Viverito currently serves as the Speaker of the New York City Council, the first Puerto Rican and Latina to hold a citywide elected position. She represents the 8th District, which includes El Bario/East Harlem and the South Bronx. Speaker Mark-Viverito was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She worked for over a decade in local activism, nonprofit organizations and labor before being elected to the City Council in 2005. In 2011, she was one of four Council Members to pioneer the first-ever Participatory Budgeting process in New York City. She is a graduate of Columbia College at Columbia University and Baruch College, City University of New York, where she studied Public Administration through the National Urban Fellows Program.

Dr. Danielle Moss Lee, Co-Chair of YWI, President & CEO of the YWCA of New York City

Dr. Danielle Moss Lee joined the YWCA of the City of New York – the nation’s first YWCA association – in 2012 as President and CEO. Under her tenure, the YWCA of NYC has expanded its program portfolio to include a women’s speaker series for professional women, STEM education for girls and young women and other robust leadership programs for women. Dr. Moss Lee’s contributions to education and the social sector have been recognized by the NY State Education Department, NYC Comptroller’s Office, The New York Coalition of 100 Black women, among many others. In 2016, Mayor DeBlasio appointed her to the city’s newly established Commission on Gender Equity.

Cherno Biko, Co-Chair of YWI’s Young Women’s Advisory Council

Ms. Cherno Biko lives to educate, inspire and entertain. She hails from a long ancestral line of charismatic leaders, activists and storytellers, most notably Steven Biko. Her work as a media strategist and activist has been featured on MSNBC, FOX, MTV, VH1, BET and Comedy Central. Ms. Biko has become widely known as a sought after speaker and prominent human rights advocate. An alum of Bowling Green State University, she has been named to the Trans 100 and The 2014 National Black Justice Coalition’s 100 Emerging Leaders. She currently serves as the co-chair of the Young Women’s Advisory Council for the City of New York and was awarded a commendation for tremendous contributions to arts and culture, politics and activism.

Gloria Malone, Co-Chair of YWI’s Young Women’s Advisory Council, Creator of Teen Mom NYC

Gloria Malone is a speaker, writer, and the founder of TeenMomNYC.com a go to destination for young parents and allies who are seeking information on how to best support and encourage pregnant and parenting young people to live their best lives. Gloria advocates and writes about politics, reproductive justice, and pregnant and parenting teens. Her work can be found in The New York Times, Huffington Post, RH Reality Check, and several other publications. In her spare time she likes to watch anime shows with her daughter and travel.

Amanda Matos, Co-Chair of YWI’s Young Women’s Advisory Council, Co-Founder and Executive Director of the WomanHOOD Project

Amanda R. Matos has devoted her work to alleviating barriers to reproductive health care and education in communities of color through capacity building, political education, and lobbying at the local, state, and federal level. She is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of The WomanHOOD Project (Helping Ourselves Overcome Discrimination), an innovative after school mentorship program for young women of color in the Bronx. Amanda also supports Planned Parenthood of New York City expand its community organizing efforts.

Her dedication to racial and gender justice has been recognized by the United Nations Peace Day and the national Peace First Prize, among others.

Miss Universe Event in NYC, at the WSA Building during New York Fashion Week-2025

On February 7, New York City was the epicenter of glamour, innovation, and global influence as we officially unveiled Miss Universe NYC Headquarters at the WSA Building during New York Fashion Week.

The evening was a spectacular blend of high fashion, live music, and groundbreaking announcements, setting the stage for the next chapter of Miss Universe.

From breathtaking performances by Filip Pogády on violin, Adrian Daurov on cello, and DJ Ana Boo, to the grand host country reveal of Thailand for the 74th Miss Universe competition on November 21, the night was nothing short of extraordinary.

With the launch of MU Talent NYC and our exclusive collaboration with Water Lounge at WSA, Miss Universe is now at the center of elite beauty, wellness, and talent innovation, aligning with celebrity-favorite experts in skincare, body sculpting, acupuncture, and movement refinement.

It’s official—Thailand will be the host country for the 74th Miss Universe competition in 2025.

The exciting news was revealed during the Miss Universe NYC Launch Event held at the WSA building’s 17th-floor screening room and lounge.

The event brought together top fashion figures, industry leaders, and devoted pageant fans to celebrate this major moment in Miss Universe history.

Carson Kressley, Emmy-winning TV personality, and Hannah Lopa, model and presenter, setting the stage for an evening full of big announcements.

Lopa welcomed the audience, saying, “Good evening, fashion icons, industry leaders, and global tastemakers! Welcome to the Miss Universe New York City launch event during New York Fashion Week!” Kressley, a proud New Yorker, added, “We always think of New York as the center of the universe, so what better place for Miss Universe to make a major announcement?”

Raúl Rocha Cantú, President of the Miss Universe Organization, who announced the opening of Miss Universe’s new corporate headquarters in New York City.

Standing on stage, he shared, “We are so proud to announce that Miss Universe now has a home in the heart of New York City, right here in the WSA building.

Being surrounded by landmarks like Wall Street and the New York Stock Exchange places us right at the center of global business, entertainment, and fashion.” He also revealed that the new space includes recording studios, photography and video production areas, and creative workspaces to take the Miss Universe brand to new heights.

Even bigger news? Miss Universe is preparing for an IPO on Wall Street, meaning it’s gearing up to become a publicly traded company.

Anne Jakrajutatip, CEO of Miss Universe and President of JKN Global Group, took the stage to reveal where the Miss Universe 2025 competition will take place. Smiling at the excited crowd, she said, “Hello, New York! Hello, Universe! Miss Universe is more than a pageant—it’s a movement. And today, we are thrilled to announce where the world’s most iconic beauty competition is headed next.”

The 74th Miss Universe competition will be held in Thailand, The room erupted in cheers as a stunning video played, showing off Bangkok, Pattaya, and Phuket, the three host cities for the event.

The Muang Thong Thani Impact Arena will host the final coronation on November 21, 2025, but the competition will be much more than just one night.

Contestants will spend nearly a month in Thailand, participating in fashion events, charity initiatives, and cultural experiences. She also teased details about ticket sales, hotel accommodations, and partnerships with top fashion designers, makeup artists, and sponsors, promising that this year’s pageant will be “bigger, bolder, and more exciting than ever before.”

68th Annual National Puerto Rican Day Parade NYC-2025

Event organizers are expecting about a million people to line up along Fifth Avenue in Midtown on Sunday to watch the parade’s floats and performances.

The 2025 parade theme, Plantando Bandera (Planting Roots), recognizes how Puerto Rican communities across the diaspora have established deep roots and positively contributed to their communities, locally, nationally and globally.

The celebration recognizes the municipality of Aguas Buenas, Puerto Rico and the Puerto Rican community of Atlanta, Georgia.

“We are pleased to recognize the communities of Aguas Buenas and Atlanta, and we anticipate highlighting them in our 2025 festivities,” stated NPRDP Board Chair Lillian Rodríguez Lopez.

“These communities exemplify our 2025 theme, Plantando Bandera, as each has uniquely and positively impacted and contributed to society while enriching the cultural identity of our people.”

This year’s parade will also pay tribute to the beloved Puerto Rican Christmas tradition, La Parranda. Tribute to Puerto Rican Urban and Contemporary Art.

The 2025 celebration will pay tribute to the long legacy of Puerto Rican artists in urban and contemporary art.

The parade’s television broadcast will include a featured piece starring Graffiti legend Lee Quiñones and art historian, Dr. Yasmin Ramirez, as they reflect on the groundbreaking role Puerto Ricans played in shaping New York’s street art movement.

The piece traces the roots of Puerto Rican contemporary art from the mid-20th century works by Rafel Tufiño and Lorenzo Homar, to the graffiti and contemporary art movements that showcased Nuyorican voices like Quiñones, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and many others.

Meet the 2025 honorees included: Six-time Grammy winner, Olga Tañón, honored as queen of the 2025 Parade celebration.

Acclaimed film and television actor, Luis Guzmán  joined  Tañón in leading the parade procession as the parade’s king.

Golden Globe Award-winning actress, Gina Rodríguez, will be honored as this year’s Madrina (Godmother).

Honored as Padrino (Godfather) of this year’s Parade is Grammy and Latin Grammy-winning artist, Elvis Crespo.

Unified Featherweight World Champion, Amanda “The Real Deal” Serrano, is the first-ever Puerto Rican undisputed world champion and the most decorated fighter in women’s boxing history, and she is recognized by Guinness World Records for the most boxing world championships won by a female in different weight classes.

NPRDP Scholarship Recipients: For the eighth consecutive year, the NPRDP is awarding 100 scholarships valued at $2,000 each, for a total of $200,000, to exceptional students of Puerto Rican descent that are making a difference in their communities and will be enrolled in a college or university in the coming school year.

This year’s recipients represent 24 states and Puerto Rico, with 36% of recipients being from Puerto Rico. Selected recipients represent 76 colleges/universities, including a mix of public and private schools, including the CUNY, SUNY, and UPR systems, as well as Ivy League institutions like Cornell, Yale, and Columbia.

The 2025 class of scholarship recipients were notified by June 1, and a list of winners will be posted on the NPRDP website. Since 2014, the NPRDP has awarded over $1.8 million in scholarships.

It was a well-attended parade, political leaders in attendance and marching in the Parade: New York State Governor Kathy Hochul, Mayor Eric Adams, New York Senior Senator Chuck Schumer, New York City Public Advocate, jumaane Williams, New York City Council Speaker, adrienne adams, Former Governor Andrew Cuomo, running for New York City Mayor and many more political leaders from New York City and Puerto Rico.

Ben Affleck Academy Award Winner Film Maker & Founder Eastern Congo Initiative @ CGI

Ben Affleck, is an American actor and filmmaker. He began his career as a child actor, starring in the PBS educational series The Voyage of the Mimi (1984, 1988). He later appeared in the coming-of-age comedy Dazed and Confused (1993) and various Kevin Smith films including Chasing Amy (1997) and Dogma (1999). Affleck gained fame when he and childhood friend Matt Damon won the Golden Globe and Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for Good Will Hunting (1997). He then starred in high-profile films including Armageddon (1998), Shakespeare in Love (1998), Pearl Harbor (2001), Changing Lanes (2002) and The Sum of All Fears (2002). After a career downturn, during which he appeared in Daredevil and Gigli (both 2003), Affleck received a Golden Globe nomination for his performance in Hollywoodland (2006).

Affleck’s directorial debut, Gone Baby Gone (2007), which he also co-wrote, was well received. He then directed, co-wrote, and starred in the crime drama The Town (2010). For the political thriller Argo (2012), which he directed and starred in, Affleck won the Golden Globe and BAFTA Award for Best Director, and the Golden Globe, BAFTA and Academy Award for Best Picture. In 2014, he starred in the psychological thriller Gone Girl. Affleck portrayed the superhero Batman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad (both 2016). The gangster drama Live by Night, which Affleck directed, wrote, produced, and acted in, will be released in early 2017.

Affleck is the co-founder of the Eastern Congo Initiative, a grantmaking and advocacy-based nonprofit organization. He is also a stalwart member of the Democratic Party. His younger brother is actor Casey Affleck, with whom he has worked on several films including Good Will Hunting and Gone Baby Gone. Following high-profile relationships with Gwyneth Paltrow and Jennifer Lopez, Affleck married Jennifer Garner in 2005. Affleck has two daughters and a son with Garner, from whom he separated in June 2015.
