Devin Haney VS Ryan Garcia Mega Fight , NY Press Conference-2024

A dangerous rivalry that has been brewing since their days in the amateur boxing scene has finally hit a fever pitch as undefeated, former undisputed lightweight champion and current WBC Super Lightweight Champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) will defend his title against international PPV star “King” Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs).

The 12-round fight is presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Haney Promotions, KingRy Promotions, and Matchroom Boxing. The mega-event will take place at Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Saturday, April 20, exclusively live on DAZN PPV.

“Facing Ryan Garcia on April 20, 2024, is another step in my pursuit of greatness and cementing my legacy as one of the sport’s greatest champions,” said Devin Haney. “I don’t need to say much. My track record speaks to my ability in the ring to overcome any challenge thrown my way, and rise to the top.

I will place everything in the Lord’s hand. I pray that Devin comes out healthy and safe, and that everyone is entertained.”

“The Golden Boy mantra is the best fighting the best, and it’s hard to remember a better example of that than when Ryan Garcia and Devon Haney square off on April 20,” said Chairman and CEO Oscar De La Hoya.

“Championship gold, bragging rights over a long, intense rivalry and the status as the face of American boxing will all be on the line with no catchweight, rehydration clauses or other nonsense. This is a can’t miss fight that fans can’t afford to miss.”

In a rare matchup of unbeaten superstars in the primes of their careers, Davis vs. Garcia is set up to be a crossover event that captures the sporting world’s imagination. With contrasting, colorful personalities and aggressive, dynamic styles in the ring that translate to highlight-reel knockouts, April 22 projects to be the must-see boxing event of the year.

Davis and Garcia squared off for a long and animated face-off at the conclusion of the press conference, offering a glimpse of the intensity on deck for fight night. Here is what the press conference participants had to say Wednesday from Palladium Times Square:

GERVONTA DAVIS:“We’re back at it. This time we got another dance partner. I know that it’s going to be tough. This fight is definitely going to be tough. But this is what we came to do. We want the big fights.

“I’ve been boxing since I was seven. I fought a lot coming up. I’m just happy to be a part of this moment and share the ring with a young fighter like Ryan Garcia who’s daring himself to be great. He talked his way into this fight. April 22 he’s going to have to show it.“I’m coming from Baltimore and a lot of people don’t make it from there. I’m just happy to be a part of this event. I couldn’t have done this by myself. I had a great team that got me here.

“We’ve stayed focused and kept our head down and continued to grind. That’s what really matters.“I think this is important because we’re both young. Both of us are at our peak. A lot of young fighters don’t fight each other. We both made our name coming up and the time is now. We’re both great fighters and we put it all on the line. “All I have to do is keep working and beat whoever they put in front of me. That starts with Ryan Garcia.

“My strategy is going to depend on what he brings that night. Whether he’s coming fast or slow, I always want to take my time. It all depends on what he brings.

“This is going to be an explosive fight. It’s two young guys who are hungry. It’s all about who wants it more. Whoever is really built like that, that’s who’s going to win. Nobody can fight for him. It’s about who’s got that dog in them.”

RYAN GARCIA:“This is a fight that I’ve been wanting for a very long time. To be a champion, you have to beat the best. It’s not about the titles, it’s about who you beat. It’s a testimony to the respect I have for Gervonta as a fighter.“I want to be the best. During this whole journey, I put boxing first and the fans first. I had to accept a lot of stipulations, but my power comes from within and from above. My strength comes from my heart.

“We really came together and conquered the poison that’s been stopping boxing from making the biggest fights. We found a way. “April 22 is the time where the words won’t matter anymore. The truth will come out. We’re both great fighters and we’ll settle it in the ring. “If you look at boxing, it’s been hard to get prime fighters together. It usually happens too late. This is a moment that boxing has been longing for. You really can’t make a bigger fight than this.

“This is a defining moment in our careers. This is about legacy. This is about who really wants the crown. “’Tank’ has the image of a devastating puncher. He’s a great fighter. I’ll know within myself what type of fighter I am after this fight. This is what I’ve always wanted .“I just didn’t want to take the risk of an interim fight before this one. There are a lot of little things that can happen. I didn’t wait this long to mess it up at the finish line.

“I’m going to be ready for 12 rounds. You have to respect your opponent. You can’t just jump in to get a knockout. It might be more of a mental fight than people might believe. Different opponents make you approach fights in different ways.”

OSCAR DE LA HOYA, Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy Promotions:“This is a mega-fight. That phrase gets thrown around a lot. How often do you get two guys who are undefeated, with huge fan bases and who are early in the peak of their career?

“This is bringing the best two fighters in their weight division in the same ring. We’re all working together to make this big mega-fight. It almost never happens, but this is one that the world is not going to miss. “We’re going to bring back the glory days because of Ryan Garcia. April 22 these two fighters are going to battle it out. I’m not going to fight for them. They have to do the job themselves.

“These two wanted this fight. Ryan Garcia wanted this  fight years ago and now it’s here. May the best man win. I have a lot of respect for ‘Tank’. He’s a special fighter, but Ryan Garcia is special as well.”

BERNARD HOPKINS, Golden Boy Promotions Partner:“This is one of those fights that we didn’t see except for once or twice a year in the 1980s or 1990s. This fight has the ingredients. These two fighters will be future Hall of Famers. This is the biggest fight of this year. We should all treat it that way.“Tell everyone who aren’t fight fans to tune in to this one. This is going to be a fight that hooks them and makes them stay in the sweet science.“Don’t ask me who is going to win, because you know which side I am on.”

STEPHEN ESPINOZA, President, SHOWTIME SPORTS:“’Tank’ Davis and Ryan Garcia are two fighters in the core social media demographic who are legitimate fighters with huge fan bases. This is a social media promotion. These guys don’t get the credit they deserve for being skilled boxers. They are obviously bringing in fans beyond the core base. They are brands.

“We have two very different fan bases geographically who both travel. Ryan’s fan base is really strong in Southern California, the Southwest, and among the Mexican-American community. ‘Tank’s’ core is the East Coast, although he has obviously done well across the country. We have two very engaged fan bases, and two very different fighters. “This fight is the rising tide that lifts all boats. There is an enthusiasm that permeates everything else. It elevates the level of action.

“This fight is one of the cornerstones of our very ambitious 2023 schedule. It’s a battle of the two most popular young fighters in the sport, two fighters in their athletic prime and two of the most exciting fighters in any weight division. Put that together and you have the biggest fight that is on the boxing schedule.

“When a fight this big gets made, there is no shortage of people rushing to take credit. ‘Tank’ Davis and Ryan Garcia deserve the credit for this fantastic event. Throughout the long negotiating process, they never wavered. They remained focused, refused to take the easy way out and take other opportunities, and delivered what the sport and the fans wanted.”

Great to have a super fight and this is what this fight is about, the winner will become the pound for pound king and the face of boxing. See More in our World Liberty TV, Boxing Channels and blogs by clicking here.

Ring Magazine presents its first-ever event in the U.S.A. titled “FATAL FURY’ in Times Square NY-2025

Ryan Garcia, Devin Haney and Teofimo Lopez kick-off a two-city Press Tour this Tuesday, March 4, in New York, ahead of a spectacular three-fight card in Times Square, New York on Friday May 2, as Ring Magazine presents its first-ever event in the United States titled “FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves”, brought to you by SNK Corporation in association with Oscar De La Hoya for Golden Boy Promotions and Eddie Hearn for Matchroom Boxing.

Garcia will clash with Rolly Romero, Haney battles Jose Ramirez and Lopez meets Arnold Barboza on the night, and all fighters will be present at the launch press conference at the Palladium Times Square on Tuesday. Media entry will be from 2pm with the press conference commencing live at 3pm ET.

A second press conference is set to take place in Los Angeles on Monday March 10, and details of this event will be released to the media soon.

New York’s iconic Times Square will be turned into a world-class boxing venue for one night only to provide the backdrop for Ring Magazine’s first American event, playing host to some of the biggest stars of the game, as Garcia returns to action on May 2 against the larger-than-life former World title challenger Romero. Former world ruler Haney will be looking to oust the former unified 140-pound king Ramirez, while Brooklyn’s Lopez always guarantees fireworks in the ring and his next assignment is a tough one in the shape of the unbeaten Barboza.

Times Square will stage a boxing tripleheader featuring the returns of Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney, along with a title defense for Teofimo Lopez, on May 2.

The card announced Friday by Turki Alalshikh, the head of Riyadh Season and the General Entertainment Authority of Saudi Arabia, brings Garcia and Haney back to New York for their first bouts since Garcia’s victory in their 2024 title bout at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. That was later changed to a no-contest after he tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs and was subsequently suspended for a year by the New York State Athletic Commission. Victories for both could set the stage for a rematch between the two.

Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) will headline the Ring Magazine “Fatal Fury: City of The Wolves” card against Rolando “Rolly” Romero (16-2, 13 KOs), who was stopped by lightweight champion Gervonta Davis in 2022 in his last fight in New York.

Garcia said at the presser today in NYC: “[Me and Rolly] sparred about eight years ago, it was rough sparring, he continued to use that to boost his career, but I don’t have no bad blood with him. I’m here to do my job and set up the rematch [with Devin], I’ve got to be sharp because he’s going to bring it.

“I want to be great, I have also wanted to fight the best fighters, as far as my problems outside the ring, I’ve always had those struggles, I want to show everybody that you can come back from anything.

“I admit my wrongs, I want to show I’m a true professional, I don’t want anyone to take my actions of drinking and smoking before a fight and thinking that’s the professional thing to do.” Romero rebuffed Garcia’s suggestion that those sparring stories were used to ‘chase clout’.

He added: “I mean, if I was clout chasing, he’d have had clout, but he didn’t have any. It’s just sparring, we’re gonna see the real fight in the ring, it’ll be one of the biggest fights in US history that’s for sure.

“I said years ago me and him were going to fight at welterweight, I outgrew 140 and 135 long, long ago. I’m all muscle right now.”

Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) will move up to welterweight to take on Jose Ramirez (29-2, 18 KOs) in a matchup of former 140-pound champions.

Arnold Barboza Jr believes that, once again, he can walk into his opponent’s backyard and shock the world when he faces Teofimo Lopez in New York City this spring.

Barboza (32-0, 11 KOs) beat Jack Catterall by split decision to claim the WBO ‘Interim’ 140-pound championship in Manchester last month, and he’s going straight back into camp for another huge clash in a few weeks.

The Mexican-American will aim to take the WBO and Ring junior-welterweight titles from Lopez (21-1, 13 KOs), who is one of the standout stars in the sport and holds huge wins over Vasiliy Lomachenko and Josh Taylor.

Lopez hasn’t fought since a unanimous decision victory over Steve Claggett last summer, and it’ll be 11 months out of the ring by the time he steps between the ropes to fight Barboza.

Barboza, fresh off his victory over Catterall, is on a roll right now, having also beaten Jose Ramirez on a Riyadh Season card back in November.

Exclusive interview with Devin Haney (WBC) World Lightweight Boxing Champion -2022

Devin Haney is an American professional boxer who has held the WBC lightweight title since 2019. As of June 2021, he is ranked as the world’s fourth best active lightweight by The Ring magazine.

As an amateur, Haney won seven National titles. In January 2015, aged 17, he became the youngest boxer to win the Youth World Championships in Reno. He had an amateur record of 138–8 bouts before turning professional in 2015 at the age of 17. Out of those eight losses, two are from his now rival Ryan Garcia in the amateurs the two have fought four times, both having won twice.

In April 2019, Haney signed a co-promotional deal between his own company, Devin Haney Promotions, and British promoter Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing. On May 25, 2019, Haney defeated Antonio Moran via a vicious seventh-round knockout, in his first match under the Matchroom banner.

On September 13, 2019, Haney defeated Zaur Abdullaev (11–0) to win the vacant WBC interim lightweight title.

In October 2019, Haney became the youngest (i.e. latest-born) world champion in boxing when he was elevated as the WBC lightweight champion after previous WBC lightweight champion Vasiliy Lomachenko was promoted to “Franchise Champion” by the WBC.

Haney was born in San Francisco and lived in Oakland, California as a child, but moved with his father Bill to Las Vegas. He started boxing at the age of seven. He converted to Islam in April 2021.

Gervonta”Tank” Davis VS Lamont Roach NY Press Conference-2024

Gervonta “Tank” Davis Returns To Defend WBA Lightweight World Championship Against WBA Super Featherweight World Champion Lamont Roach On Saturday, March 1 Headlining A PBC Pay-Per-View Event On Prime Video From Barclays Center In Brooklyn.

Boxing superstar and WBA Lightweight World Champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis went face-to-face with red-hot WBA Super Featherweight World Champion Lamont Roach at a press conference in Brooklyn on Tuesday to preview their lightweight world championship clash that headlines a PBC Pay-Per-View event on Prime Video on Saturday, March 1 from Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

A five-time, three-division world champion, Davis returns to Barclays Center where he set the building’s record for the highest-grossing and most-attended boxing event when he scored a highlight-reel KO of Rolando Romero in May 2022.

At Tuesday’s press conference, the fighters re-ignited their rivalry that dates back to their amateur days and promised fireworks when they meet in the ring on March 1. The press tour will continue on Thursday with an open to the public press conference in Washington, D.C.

Tickets for the live event go on sale Thursday, December 5 beginning at 10 a.m. ET and will be available through ticketmaster.com.

Pre-sale tickets are AVAILABLE NOW until 9 a.m. ET on Thursday, December 5 through ticketmaster.com with the code: PBC.

In addition to the PPV being available for purchase on Prime Video, regardless of Prime membership, fans will also be able to continue to access the telecast through traditional cable and satellite outlets as well as PPV.com.The event is promoted by GTD Promotions and TGB Promotions.

Here is what the fighters had to say Tuesday from Barclays Center: GERVONTA DAVIS “I’m gonna chop, chop, bob and weave. I’m gonna end it in the ninth round.

“I like to show people that they aren’t who they say they are. I like to prove it to the people they come with. My first time winning the title, the whole building doubted me.

“I’m excited to be a part of this and come March 1, this is gonna be a great event. It’s gonna be an exciting show, with the same results as always. You just have to wait and see.

“The people’s energy here is amazing. I won my first championship here and I have more followers from New York than almost anywhere. New Yorkers come with great energy.

“Lamont’s got skills. Even at a smaller weight class. He’s one of the guys who I came up with in the sport of boxing, and he’s still doing well. He’s definitely a top opponent and everyone will see that on March 1. “We’ll have to test his chin come March 1. He might think my opponents don’t have chins, but we’ll definitely test it. I say leave the kids at home.”

LAMONT ROACH: “I shouldn’t be here if I didn’t believe I’m gonna win. I’ve hurt everybody that I’ve been in the ring with and this won’t be any different.

“This is a hell of an opportunity and we’re gonna conquer it. Everyone knows what I’m coming to do. And if you don’t, you’ll be surprised. I’m gonna show you what happens when two dogs go in the ring together.

“My team built my career from the ground up. I have the same team from when I turned professional and we took on the best fights for my career. I worked myself to the number one contender spot, lost a fight and bounced back. We have a common opponent in Hector Luis Garcia and I beat him easily.

“The Frank Martin fight was relatively easy for him. It is what it is. Frank was inexperienced and nervous. This is going to be a different fight when I’m in there. He’s gonna be a different fighter when he’s fighting me.

“It’s a big difference fighting each other in the amateurs and fighting now. We’ve both evolved and gotten better and do different things in the ring. There might be some tendencies that we already know, but I don’t expect those things to matter on the big stage. “I don’t care about being the underdog or being the favorite. Either way, I’m gonna win.”
