BY: Adal Hussain, Chief  Editor for World Liberty TV ,      Mon July 31st 2023

The Brooklyn Democratic Party represents and advocates for Democrats from every corner of the borough. We’re one of the largest Democratic organizations in the U.S., with 1.2 million registered voters and 42 District Leaders among 21 Assembly Districts.

Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn is the Assembly member and State Committee Woman/District Leader for New York State’s 42nd Assembly District representing Flatbush, East Flatbush, Midwood and Ditmas Park in Brooklyn.

In January, she became the first Black woman to lead a county party in New York City when she was nominated as Chair of the Kings County Democratic County Committee, one of the largest county parties in America.

The Democratic Party as a whole is governed by committees of registered Democrats, from the national level down to state and community-level.

Every two years, Brooklyn Democrats in each assembly district (the electoral districts for Assembly members) elect two district leaders.

High-profile guests like Gov. Kathy Hochul, U.S. Sens. Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, state Attorney General Letitia James, New York City Mayor Eric Adams, Reps. Hakeem Jeffries  Dan Goldman,  Jumaane Williams, Rep. Gregory Meeks, Thomas P. DiNapoli, New York State Comptroller, Queens Borough President Donovan Richards, Former Bronx Borough President , Ruben Diaz Jr, Brooklyn’s own, Simcha Eichenstein – Assembly District 48, lieutenant governor Antonio Delgado  a host of other politicos attended the packed event. Collaboration was perhaps the guiding theme of the evening, underscored of course with a celebration of Brooklyn’s role in the Democratic political machine.

“I am declaring Brooklyn the epicenter of political power – not just in New York City, not just in the state of New York, but the entire United States of America,” Hochul said, to packed house at Giando’s on the Water, people cheered and clapped.

Schumer, called to the stage, tried his hand with a few freestyle verses. “All right everybody, my name is Chuck. I bring you luck,” he began, before pivoting to urge the crowd to use its political power to defeat former President Donald Trump and to increase the party’s majority in the U.S. Senate.

New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams said. “From my Assembly member, to me, to all across the borough, we have so much power in Brooklyn if we can just get together, raise our voice and make sure the communities that need the most help get it.”

Mayor Eric Adams went on to say, some of the Most Powerful Political leaders in who of the USA, are from Brooklyn, NY. He went on to say, He is from Brooklyn, Senator Chuck Schumer, Majority Leader, Attorney General Letitia James, New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries of New York, all from Brooklyn New York who went on to do great things as political leaders.

Democracy Forum in NY by Obama Foundation-2022

Obama Foundation program that has trained hundreds of young leaders across Africa, the Asia-Pacific and Europe is being expanded to include the United States. Former President Barack Obama is expected to announce the new program on Thursday during a two-day democracy forum the foundation is co-sponsoring in New York City.

The Obama Foundation Leaders United States program is a six-month leadership development program for emerging leaders between the ages of 24 and 45. The program will serve more than 100 leaders from the U.S. in its first year. Participants will be chosen through a competitive application process.

In remarks prepared for delivery on Thursday at the forum, Obama cites “consistently high interest” in the foundation’s programs as a reason for the expansion. “The creativity, determination and passion of these leaders are already making an impact — in lives saved, environments restored, children educated,” he says. “They’re creating new models for clean energy generation and poverty alleviation. It’s remarkable and inspiring — and a little humbling, since I sure wasn’t making such an impact at their age. “And the good news is, we’re just scratching the surface of what this next generation is capable of,” Obama says.

The Obama Foundation Leaders program has worked with more than 700 people in Africa, the Asia-Pacific and Europe since it was launched in 2018 after Obama, a Democrat, left the White House following two terms as president, according to the foundation. Valerie Jarrett, a longtime Obama adviser and CEO of the Obama Foundation, said the U.S. extension of the leader’s program is a “continuation of our efforts to pay it forward by helping the next generation.”

The foundation, in partnership with Columbia University and the University of Chicago, is holding its first democracy forum in New York on Thursday and Friday. Democracy thinkers, leaders and activists from across the globe will discuss how to advance and strengthen democracy in the United States and abroad. Obama is scheduled to close the first day of the forum with a speech and a conversation with a group of foundation leaders.

Some of the speakers included were: Lee C. Bollinger, President, Columbia University, Dr. Paul Alivisatos, President, University of Chicago, Valerie Jarrett, CEO, Obama Foundation, Anil Dash, CEO, Glitch, Leni Robredo, 14th Vice President of the Philippines, Alex Soros, Deputy Chair, Open Society Foundations, Tabata Amaral, representative, lower house, National Congress of Brazil, Rep. Ro Khanna, House of Representatives (D-California).

Gift Ostallos Siziba, Africa Leader 2022, who went on to introduce President Obama., President Obama’s speech started off by “We hope this event gives everyone who believes in democracy the confidence that they can help make it stronger,” he wrote in a note to supporters. “Because if we want democracy to flourish, we will have to fight for it, we will have to nurture it, and we will have to demonstrate its value, again and again.”

It was a great forum, bringing many leaders worldwide in one room. You can see many of the speakers in our World Liberty TV, Political Channels and Blogs by clicking here.
